If a perfectly healthy person, physically and mentally, is left in isolation, it can have a horrendous impact on them. Saving Wendy is essentially about that. Wendy Williams, who hosted The Wendy Williams Show between 2008 and 2021, is being a guest in a New York City assisted living facility.
It's been a long time and they aren't letting her go because the court says so. In February 2022, her bank, Wells Fargo froze her account after they flagged some of her transactions. Reports say her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., did that without her knowledge. Throughout Saving Wendy, Williams was seen talking over a phone while confined behind a glass.
What followed was Wells Fargo claiming her to be an incapacitated person and requesting an assessment from the New York Supreme Court if she should be kept under guardianship. Sabrina Morrissey, a New York lawyer, is currently her guardian, looking over her financial assets while Wendy waits to get out from the facility she has started to see as a 'hell hole.'
Wendy's son began the chain of events and it's all hell for her now as she is in guardianship
Saving Wendy sheds light on the current state of Wendy Williams' living conditions, which is no short of a prison. She can't go outside but thanks to her dentist appointments, they at least gave her a chance to go outside and feel the fresh air on a couple of occasions in a month, she tells TMZ Executive Producer Harvey Levin.
It all began with her son, as she explained over a phone call to him in Saving Wendy. She said,
"My son, you know, he overstepped. His boundaries in terms of me, you understand, he overstepped his boundaries and he was inappropriately using my money without telling me cr*p about it, you know, like, is he stealing from me? That's when my money got frozen at Wells Fargo. Thank God. No more money stealing."
Although Kevin denies anything that she claims.
Her health conditions were in question too, as her guardian explains. According to her, Wendy has a progressive disease called frontotemporal dementia. However, Harvey says he didn't see any hint of disability as he entered a conversation with her.
She signed legal documents to end this guardianship following Saving Wendy's release
It seems like Saving Wendy is indeed saving Wendy if what the reports say is true. Some sources told TMZ that the former broadcaster has signed an affidavit for her freedom as she has "regained capacity" to function without a guardian.
The documentary also emphasized frontotemporal dementia, which, as explained already, is progressive. However, she appears to be better than before. There will be an evaluation and if everything goes right, she might be as free as a bird again.
Wendy has expressed herself about the way she is living while talking on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM. She said,
"I am not cognitively impaired, you know what I’m saying? But I feel like I’m in prison."
She cannot even fit in there as Wendy goes on to explain that she has been living among the elderly between 70 years and 90 years of age. Williams says,
"There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor."
The 60-year-old is currently on the 5th floor of the New York City facility, which is keeping her. We are likely to get an update soon, but Wendy seems to have kept herself together, which is something she will need to do to get out of what she calls a prison.
