Donald Glover was set to take the Childish Gambino farewell tour overseas

Donald Glover was going to finish his remaining 15 concerts in the North American tour and then take the tour into Europe for the rest of 2024, followed by a brief tour in Australia. Now all those dates outside the US are likely to be postponed as well.

Glover has stated in the past that his new album Bando Stone & The New World, as well as the new film of the same name to be released later, will be the last project under the Childish Gambino moniker. The singer explained the same in an exclusive interview with The New York Times on July 17, 2024, stating:

"It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,' It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore."

The singer later elaborated on how becoming a parent helped solidify the choice to retire the moniker:

"I’m not 25 anymore, standing in front of a boulder like, ‘This has to move'. You give what you can, but there’s beauty everywhere in every moment. You don’t have to build it. You don’t have to search for it. When I put my son on my shoulders, I feel deep joy. That’s real. No one on their deathbed is going to look back and say,‘Thank God I avoided being cringe."

Bando Stone & The New World the album was released on July 19, 2024. The album has been moderately successful since its release, charting at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album features an eclectic mix of sounds from throughout the singer's music career, with notes of hip-hop, trap, jazz, Afrobeats, electronic music, as well as R&B.

Bando Stone & The New World, the film, had its first IMAX trailer during screenings of A Quite Place: Day One, The trailer was released on YouTube on July 1, 2024 and has amassed over 3 million views on the platform. The film's release date has not been announced as of the time of writing of this article.

Donald Glover first announced his intention to retire the Childish Gambino moniker back in 2017, when he told the Governors Ball attendees that the next album would be the last Childish Gambino. With the release of Bando Stone & The New World, Glover is now one step closer to that goal.
