Captain America: Brave New World is one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2025. It is the fourth entry in the Captain America series and will take the story forward from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Julius Onah is the director and co-writer while Kevin Feige is producing it under the Marvel Studios banner.
In July 2022, Marvel Studios announced that Anthony Mackie had joined the film which is titled Captain America: New World Order. However, in June 2023, the makers changed its title to Captain America: Brave New World. As per Collider, the moniker New World Order refers to a conspiracy of people working secretly and having antisemitic beliefs. It refers to a belief that Jewish people are controlling everything and are also running the government.
Because of its antisemitic and problematic root, we can speculate that the makers decided to drop the title Captain America: New World Order and go with the current name.
In the times that we live in, it would be easy to fire the fan that might erupt from the NWO title of a film that is made for family-friendly viewing. So, the studio omitting that name showcases their attempt to avoid any kind of unnecessary controversy that the title might attract.
The origin of Brave New World title
Captain America: Brave New World is the new title of the film and it also refers to the namesake book by Aldous Huxley. It talks about a dystopian world where people are not allowed to embrace their individuality or their emotions. So it is sufficient to say that the makers are again trying to capture the dystopian essence of the previous title without its negative connotations. The Captain America franchise often showcases the superhero going head-on against the organization and establishment.
The upcoming film will showcase the aftermath of the blip incident and it would be interesting to see how the theme of anarchy and dystopia plays into the story. In an interview with Geek Culture, Onah spoke about the book reference as well as Adamantium:
"A ‘brave new world’ goes back to the Shakespeare quote. It also goes back to the Alex Aldous Huxley novel. It’s often about an emerging technology that can have really positive, but also sometimes unknown and scary implications in a world. And adamantium is this really powerful resource that, for anybody who’s a Marvel fan knows, plays an incredible role in the world.”
He also spoke about how the storyline will play a part in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as well as the future Avengers film. He said:
“It’s the first step for a huge journey coming forward in the MCU, leading towards the next Avengers movies, and of course, adamantium and mutants are going to be a part of that.”
Captain America: Brave New World will be released on February 14, 2025, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. As per IMDB, the official synopsis of the film reads as follows:
"Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan."
