Who will be performing at American Music Awards 50th anniversary? Stray Kids, Green Day take the lead

The American Music Awards will be celebrating their 50th anniversary with a two-hour-long special next month. The event honoring the rich history of music and pop culture will be aired on CBS Television Network and Paramount+ between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

According to a September 26 announcement from CBS, the anniversary special will feature a star-studded line-up of Mariah Carey, Green Day, Stray Kids, and Chaka Khan. The other five artists confirmed to be performing at the after-dark event will be Jennifer Hudson, Kane Brown, Raye, Gladys Knight, and Brad Paisley.

Renowned comedian, producer, and five-time American Music Awards host, Jimmy Kimmel, is set to make a special appearance at the Los Angeles event. While there are speculations about Jimmy hosting the anniversary special, a confirmation is awaited. He will be joined by other major stars including Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan and Carrie Underwood.

The American Music Awards 50th anniversary special will pay tribute to five decades of AMA history. It will be lined with engaging performances honoring past winners of the AMAs and major contributors from the music industry.

The celebratory event will feature rare footage from the AMA archives showcasing the evolution of music genres and artists, their top performances, and award milestones. The evening will be complemented by unexpected artist collaborations and the appearance of some of the biggest AMA legends.

Some of the other American Music Awards 50th-anniversary special highlights confirmed by CBS include:

  1. Green Day - The band will celebrate the glorious history of Rock music at the American Music Awards 50th anniversary special. They will be performing their latest chart-topping hit, Dilemma.
  2. Chaka Khan - Chaka will perform her special hit, I'm Every Woman, as she celebrates five decades of AMA achievements from female artists across the country.
  3. Kane Brown - Brown will be honoring the legacy of Country music as he plays multiple country classics and latest hits.
  4. Stray Kids - Tke K-Pop band will deliver a soulful performance honoring the legacy of numerous Boy Bands at the American Music Awards.
  5. Gladys Knight - She last performed at the American Music Awards in 1974 and will take the stage once again on October 6. Gladys will present an encore performance of the all-time hit, Midnight Train to Georgia.
  6. Brad Paisley - He will play a special song in honor of the late Charley Pride. Charley was the first artist to win an AMA for both Country Male and Country Album.
  7. Jennifer Hudson - She will pay tribute to some of the biggest all-time AMA winners with a moving performance.
  8. Mariah Carey - Apart from the 50th anniversary of the AMAs, Mariah will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of her multi-platinum album, The Emancipation of Mimi. The viewers will witness her performing a medley of the top hits from the 2005 album.
  9. RAYE - She will perform James Brown's It's A Man's Man's Man's World, after walking the audience through a retrospective film on the American Music Award of Merit winners. The prestigious award has been received by artists like Annie Lenox, James Brown, and Billy Joel.

The full list of the artists performing at the American Music Awards 50th anniversary special is expected to be revealed in the coming days.

This event precedes the consecutive run of the AMAs, set to be held next year in May 2025.
