Looking and speaking through a huge glass window, we witness Wendy Williams talk about her situation in the latest documentary TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy.
Celebrated media personality Wendy Williams, who has had a massively impressive career for decades, is now 60 and is living, well, actually constricted, in a memory care facility. Williams feels this place to be stifling, as she describes its experience to be like a prison. It all started back in 2023 when she was diagnosed with health conditions, namely Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia.
In the TMZ documentary, since Wendy Williams was barred from stepping out of her room, she was interviewed over a telephonic conversation by Harvey Levin, while we can witness her at her window in a video recording outside her house. People over the internet have responded strongly and empathized with her condition and have expressed their concerns and solidarity with her, hoping that she can live freely and peacefully again.
The documentary has revealed many disturbing details about Williams' situation, which sheds light on the sheer human rights violations she has been facing, including her battle with her guardianship. Since the year of her diagnosis, Wendy Williams was assigned financial guardianship by the court, which has prime control over all her monetary decisions. We shall explore its details in the article.
Who is Wendy Williams' guardian?
Wendy Williams' guardian is Sabrina Morrissey, an attorney who is in charge of her monetary assets, which includes her real estate. Williams' other financial assets are sealed in a locker. Sabrina Morrissey's access and control is not only limited to Williams' monetary decision, but also in her personal life and in regards to her health issues as well.
What acted as a catalyst for Wendy Williams being imposed with a guardian was in 2022, when her bank, Wells Fargo, raised concerns over Williams being a victim of monetary abuse. The bank claimed that she was not mentally stable enough to handle her finances, as they witnessed enormous amounts of money from her bank account being transacted, and therefore, Sabrina Morrissey was brought on board.
As revealed in the TMZ documentary Saving Wendy, it is disclosed that it was actually Wendy Williams' son Kevin Hunter Jr.'s actions that led to this oppressive system of guardianship. He had transacted copious amounts of money from his mother's account without her having any idea about it. Therefore, Wendy Williams' bank account was blocked.
Apart from the TMZ documentary, according to reports, Lifetime and A&E Television Networks had released a documentary named Where Is Wendy Williams?, which provoked Williams' guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, to take legal action against the makers, as she felt the documentary was 'exploitative' towards Wendy Williams. According to reports, Morrissey even attempted to put a halt to the broadcasting of the show, but she failed.
Wendy Williams, along with her niece Alex Finnie, emphasized the emotional abuse she faced under her Guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, in one of her sparse interviews after confinement with Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM. Wendy Williams heartbreakingly claimed there that her beloved pet cats, My Way, and Chit Chat, were separated from her and were given a new home, something that she came to know about later.
More about TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy
It is important to note that, in the TMZ documentary, Wendy Williams seems to be in a much more stable state, and Williams strongly asserts that she is not somebody who is in a state of not being able to take care of herself. This is contrary to what her Guardian says about her being "incapacitated" and "cognitively impaired." Williams had also stated to Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM that she does not have frontotemporal dementia.
As per TMZ, Wendy Williams is preparing to fight for her rights back, as she has revealed that she shall undergo the diagnosis again and, along with her attorney, she shall take the matters to court to regain her freedom and autonomy. According to reports, she has also signed an affidavit document, which shall enable her to get the guardian's rights over Williams ceased.
