Waka Flocka Flame, born Juaquin James Malphurs, is an American singer-songwriter and rapper who is known for works such as Flockaveli and his collaboration with Gucci Mane Ferrari Boyz. The singer, however, recently came into focus on social media after posting a statement in a now deleted Instagram story in which he claimed to have been jumped on by 10 men. The story was captioned:
"can't believe nobody help me fight ten nixxas off but I'm still standing ten toes marks."
After his initial post via Instagram Story, no concrete evidence or reporting emerged to support his claim. Subsequently, the rapper made another post in which he tagged the Daily Mail X page post regarding his original Instagram story and appeared to confirm that the original post may have been a social media stunt:
"crazy how ni**a believe that sh*t"
Subsequently, the singer released two more tweets on January 2, 2025, further confirming that the original alleged altercation post had been a social media stunt and announcing the platform Simps Social, which is apparently set to provide 'real news' to subscribers:
Waka Flocka Flame: A brief history
Waka Flocka Flame, originally named Juaquin James Malphurs, was born on May 31, 1986, in New York, before his family moved to settle in Georgia sometime later.
The singer revealed the origin of his stage name in an exclusive interview with Jared Swilley. He said that the cartoon Muppet Babies inspired part of it, while the other half had been coined by Gucci Mane, whose former manager was Malphurs' mother, Debra Antney. It is here quoted from hiphopdx's article on the cartoon Muppet Babies from June 29, 2010:
"Yeah, I’ve got a Fozzie chain, ’cause when I was younger, me and my cousin used to watch it and he started calling me “Waka.”
Waka Flocka Flame started releasing his music in 2009 and released his debut album, Flockaveli, on October 5, 2010. The album was followed by two more albums, a collaboration with Gucci Mane, Ferrari Boyz, in 2011, and then his second studio album, Triple F Life: Friends, Fans & Family.
In an exclusive interview with XXL Magazine in the Spring 2021 issue of XXL, later published as an article on the XXL website on April 28, 2021, the singer talked about upcoming music:
"Yes. What I’ma do is, I’ma drop a CD before Flockaveli 2. I feel like I was selling fans short of Flockaveli 2 and I was selling them short of an EP. Fans ain’t get no dope tape out of me yet."
The singer continued:
"Before they had a good album, they had some fire-a** records, fire-a** CDs to listen to and build on my sound and learn how to fall in love with it. That’s the approach I’m taking now. I’m about to get ready to drop a record called '8 Ball'. I named it '8 Ball ’cause I feel like I got the game in the corner pocket."
Waka Flocka Flame later talked about the adjustments he made during the pandemic, particularly in his life:
"During the lockdown, I realized that the man in the mirror was my biggest enemy. That was the person...myself. I healed myself. I swear, this lockdown taught me how to heal myself. And now, I feel like...that sh*t made me love myself, yo. It made me know that I was born to show love to people."
Waka Flocka Flame has released a couple of series of mixtapes. The Salute Me or Shoot Me series consists of a total of 8 mixtapes, with his debut mixtape, which was released back in 2009, being part of the series.
Waka Flocka Flame has two mixtapes under the Twin Towers series and four mixtapes in the LeBron Flocka James. Other mixtapes the singer has released include Lock Out, From Roaches to Rollies, and Big Homie Flocka, as well as Mollywood and I Can't Rap Vol. 2.
