The new Thunderbolts* trailer was just released at the Super Bowl LIX. It reintroduced the MCU's known supervillains to the Marvel fans as they team up to fight a looming threat. It showed CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine bringing these forces together since "the Avengers are not coming." So, Bucky Barnes joins hands with Yelena, Red Guardian, Ghost, and Taskmaster to fight a yet-unclear threat.
The trailer shows these villains turning good for the sake of a mission. At the same time, it hints at a good guy turning bad and posing a risk in front of them. The two-and-a-half-minute clip does not give away a specific detail as to who this threat is. However, Marvel fans were quick to reach some solid speculations.
Per these discussions, the villain in the upcoming Thunderbolts* is reportedly The Void, also referred to as Sentry or Bob in his other forms. The Superman-esque character is being played by Top Gun: Maverick-fame Lewis Pullman and will first appear in the MCU.
While the passionate Marvel fans might know about Sentry's history and origins, others might be wondering who The Void is.

Marvel Studios has just shown a brand-new trailer for Thunderbolts* during the Super Bowl. It shows the supervillains being teamed up to fight a threat, which remains nameless and faceless, at least in the trailer. However, according to the online discussions on this topic, the villain is supposed to be The Void, a villainous alter-ego of Sentry/Robert 'Bob' Reynolds.
The trailer does not show any clear pictures of this supposed antagonist. However, it shows a dark, caped figure looming over the city as it crumbles into pieces. The villains team up to fight not Ultron or Thanos but this seemingly good man who turns bad. His dark appearance ties in with his mysterious and deceitful personality.
The trailer shows The Void/Sentry in different situations, including one where Bucky feels powerless in front of him. He seemingly pulls apart Winter Soldier's prosthetic arm and flings another villain-turned-hero. The Void's dark figure mainly flies over the city as it falls prey to severe destruction. However, his exact appearance remains a secret, as he merely appears as a dark figure lurking around the team.

The Void is the latest addition to the MCU's long list of characters. Even though he and Sentry inhabit the same body, he is unlike his heroic counterpart. He is incredibly powerful to the point he is capable of destroying the whole earth. So, he is also referred to as the Dark Sentry.
Robert/Bob keeps trying to get back in charge of his mind from The Void, his seemingly immortal alter ego. Apparently, the only way to defeat it is by erasing Bob's memories so he won't be connected with it. Although not explicitly revealed in the Thunderbolts* trailer, Lewis Pullman is supposedly playing this character besides Bob/Sentry.
Sentry is a powerful being, also referred to as Marvel's own Superman due to his boundless capabilities. His origin story is as unfortunate as the supervillains teaming up against him. Much like them, Sentry came into the picture after Bob was infected with a serum.
In his case, it was the Golden Sentry Serum, which simultaneously led to the creation of The Void. So, in order to defeat the crafty villain, the Thunderbolts* will have to reflect upon their tragic past and approach Bob's struggling inner self. It's fair to say that it sets up the stage for another interesting chapter in this universe.
Thunderbolts* is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
