Drake recently hosted a livestream with Adin Ross titled "Drizzymass" on December 26, 2024. During the livestream, the Canadian rapper brought out his mother, Sandi Graham, to the livestream, making it the first time he has done so in 15 years.
The livestream on December 26, 2024, was her first online appearance with her son. Earlier in the year, Sandi did attend the rapper's KeyBank Center show in New York City, New York, on February 27, 2024. The rapper later posted about the moment, sharing a photo of Sandi at the concert.
During the live stream, she shared a message with the rest of the world, stating:
“There’s always a chance for things to change in life. It’s not always when you want it, how you want it but… I promise you, they will get better for you.”
Sandi Grahan nee Sherri was born to Ashkenazi Jewish parents on January 28, 1960. During her working years, she was a teacher and a florist. She met the rapper's father, Dennis Graham, while he was in Toronto playing with Jerry Lewis, and they had their son soon after.
Her parents owned a factory when she met Dennis, and they helped him set up an interior design shop on the factory premises before she split up with him five years later. The two co-parented the rapper between Toronto and Memphis, with Sandi living in the lower half of a house on Weston Road with the rapper before he grew up and became successful.
A brief overview of Drake's growing up experiences
Drake talked about his growing up experiences during an exclusive interview with Complex on November 5, 2011:
"Here’s the thing, I grew up on Weston Road. That’s near the west end of the city. It’s not the nicest area in the world. I grew up there. I moved to Forest Hill in the sixth grade. So I didn’t grow up in Forest Hill. I grew up out there. My pictures are in the school, I’m sure. You can go check it out. I went to Weston Collegiate for summer school."
The rapper continued:
"I wasn’t always in Forest Hill. My mother happens to be a Jewish woman. She wanted the best for her family. She found us a half of a house we could live in. The other people had the top half, we had the bottom half. I lived in the basement, my mom lived on the first floor. It was not big, it was not luxurious. It was what we could afford."
In another appearance with HBO's The Shop with Lebron James on Episode 2, Drake talked about how he was hard on his parents for the way they handled the split and raising him subsequently:
"I was really hard on my parents for giving me sort of a childhood that I had to wrap my mind around as I grew. Multiple times I sort of suggested that they could have done a better job at co-parenting, sticking together, not being so divided."
Drake and Adin Ross gave away several gifts during the livestream, including cash prizes, Lamborghini or G Wagon, rent for two people for a year, $100k for a Toronto-based artist or entrepreneur, tickets for Australia, $250k for a dream vacation for two couples and more.
The livestream was Drake's second prominent livestream in 2024 with streamers, with a previous livestream with xQc's leading to an Australian tour announcement.
