Rich Homie Quan, a prominent name in the Atlanta rap scene, signed with the independent label, RAIS LLC., and Motown Records. Quan who was born with the legal name, Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on Thursday, September 5.

The Fulton County medical examiners shared a statement that reads:

“On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, 6 September 2024.”

Rich Homie Quan is survived by his father Corey Lamar, girlfriend Amber Williams, and four sons, including the eldest named Devin.

Quan's father was the target of an attempted robbery in 2014 and was critically wounded after being shot four times. The rapper's father remained ill after the incident but made a successful recovery in due time.

Rich Homie Quan started his music career with the I Go In on Every Song mixtape which came out in April 2012. The rapper followed it up with the Still Goin In mixtape, which was released in September of the same year.

While the first two mixtapes gained him a large number of listeners, he officially rose to prominence after releasing the third mixtape, Still Goin In: Reloaded. It came out in August 2013, and featured one of Quan's biggest hits - Type of Way, which charted at No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

A music video for Type of Way was released on YouTube in July of the same year and has been viewed over 309 million times. The single sold over 500,000 copies by September 2014 and was certified Gold by the RIAA.

The rapper followed up the success of Type of Way with the mixtapes Trust God F*ck 12, I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In, If You Ever Think.., and more.

In May 2015, he released his debut extended play project, Summer Sampler. All six songs were streamed over a million times on Spotify, with Flex (Ooh Ooh Ooh) topping at over 323 million streams.

Rich Homie Quan then released his debut album, Rich as in Spirit, on March 16, 2018. The much-awaited album was received exceptionally well and peaked at #32 on the US Billboard 200 chart. It also charted at #19 on Billboard's US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

The Rich as in Spirit album featured two singles, Changed and 34. While Changed has been streamed over 5.8 million times on Spotify, 34 has received over 3.8 million streams.

The fourth EP, Family & Mula, was reportedly his last release. It came out on October 4, 2022, and comprised eight tracks, including - Kno No More, Risk Takers, Dark Shades, Another One, and more. Risk Takers was the biggest hit from the album and was streamed over 4.5 million times on Spotify.
