However, as the story unveils, we see Shadow's side of the story and learn about his unlikely friendship with the empathetic Maria Robotnik. Furthermore, we also learn that he is just merely a pawn of the real mysterious villain who, like Shadow is also motivated by what happened to Maria Robotnik.
