Marquis Floyd, an artist known for his role in Disney's The Lion King's national tour ensemble, passed away suddenly on March 23, 2025.
The Disney Theatrical Group confirmed the news; however, Playbill reported that his cause of death has not been revealed yet.
According to Broadway World, Floyd was a performer and a choreographer. His Facebook bio described him as an Ensemble dancer in The Lion King Musical. He previously worked as a dancer at the Metropolitan Opera.
The young artist was also an adjunct faculty member at PCCA Dance – Gibbs High School. Originally from Clearwater, Florida, he graduated from the Boston Conservatory. He received most of his training in St. Petersburg, Florida, as he described in a video titled L.I.V.E. (Living In The View Of Equality) - A Short Documentary created by Marquis Floyd on his YouTube channel.
He was known for performing at the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, the 2021 VMA Awards, the production of Fire Shut Up in My Bones at the Metropolitan Opera House, and the Apple+ series Dickinson.

The team members of Marquis Floyd and his followers are remembering him since his tragic passing on March 23, 2025.
According to Playbill, Lion King producer Anne Quart paid him her tribute, mentioning that their fraternity is “deeply saddened” by his sudden passing. She wrote:
“he brought his extraordinary talent to the stage and shared his warm humanity off stage. On behalf of The Lion King, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones and friends. He will forever be part of our Pride.”
“Marquis Floyd getting the opportunity to work with someone who was so genuine and amazing. He always had a smile you could just feel the warmth when you saw him. He was sooo talented. I loved following your journey! Till we meet again friend.” His friend, Jalisa Marie wrote on Facebook.
“He was a Dancer extraordinaire, appearing in Lion King, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Metropolitan Opera to name a few. He was dedicated to his craft, keeping body and mind at its prime. His talent, dedication and smile will be missed. #RIP Nephew.” Floyd’s uncle, Nathaniel Patterson wrote.
“Omg such a beautiful soul. rip Marquis Floyd prayers to your family.” One user wrote.
“In memory of actor, dancer and choreographer Marquis Floyd, who was most recently touring with The Lion King” A user commented.
“Marquis Floyd. No words. Rest well friend and continue dancing up in heaven” Another added.
“I have no words this does not feel real. Rest Peacefully my friend. Marquis Floyd” One more user said.
Broadway World reported that the Lion King performance, which was scheduled for March 23, 2025, was canceled at Fort Lauderdale's Broward Center following the news of his tragic death. The performance resumed on March 25, 2025.
