Argentine singer Leo Dan passed away at the age of 82 on January 1, 2025. His death was confirmed through an announcement on social media.
The information stated:
“This morning our beloved Leo Dan left his body in peace and with the love of his family. Thus, he returned to the pure light of his Heavenly Father, to guide us and take care of us from the infinite.”
The statement further invited those who were part of his musical journey and were moved by his legacy to share their condolences. “With much peace in our hearts, we remember and feel his deep love… forever.” It added. The social media post concluded with a biblical note
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in me will live, even though they die'" (John 11:25).
Leo Dan was married to Marietta Tevez, a popular musician in Argentina. He had said that it was “love at first sight” for the couple. Their romance quickly blossomed into marriage, and they eventually tied the knot in 1966. The couple had three children: Vanessa, Mariana, and Niko.

Marietta Tevez is often credited as the pillar of support for Leo Dan throughout his life and work. She has been the inspiration behind his music. According to a report, Leo Dan dedicated many songs to his beloved wife, such as “Mary Es Mi Amor.” The romantic track was based on his love story. It described how a brief courtship ended in a marriage proposal after their meeting, precisely 20 days later.
Dan was also known by his birth name, Leopoldo Dante Tevez. He reportedly recorded more than 20 albums in his professional career. He began his career in 1963 in Buenos Aires after being signed by the CBS record label.
Cómo Te Extraño Mi Amor, Mary Es Mi Amor, Te He Prometido, Pídeme La Luna and Que Tiene La Niña are some of his notable tracks. Some of his other hit tracks include Santiago querido and Libre, solterito y sin nadie.
Santiago Querido was a tribute to his city, Santiago del Estero, where he was born. It was a part of the album Santiago Querido, released in 1964. While Libre, solterito y sin nadie was based on themes of freedom and solitude.
He was felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement Award by The Latin Recording Academy in 2012. In an interview with Billboard, when the artist was asked as to what elevated a singer to the status of a music legend, he said:
“Humility, faith in God, and knowing that all things will go well when he’s in your life.”
