LaVar Ball is the co-founder and CEO of Big Baller Brand, a company specializing in sportswear. He married Tina Ball in 1997. The couple met while attending California State University and went on to have three children. During their sons ' childhood, the family resided in Chino Hills, California, a place that would become the center of their innumerable training sessions.
In 2017, Tina, a former basketball player herself, suffered a massive stroke and was hospitalized for two months. In an interview on The Woj Pod with Adrian Wojnarowski, Lonzo revealed how difficult the period was for the family, describing his mother as the one who always held the family together. He continued,
"If you ask anybody in the family, that’s the only person my dad would listen to, honestly. When she went down, it was tough for everybody. That’s the first time I’ve seen my dad cry. It was tough on the family and it just hits you different."
LaVar Ball, who played professional basketball in the early 90s, had a big influence on his son's career. In 2017, LaVar launched a reality TV show titled Ball in the Family, to give deeper insights into the family's life.
His son, Lonzo, made it to the NBA and was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017. Ball later joined the Chicago Bulls, where he currently is a point guard.
LiAngelo, on the other hand, played for the Astros of Jalisco, in Mexico, before leaving due to an ankle injury. He also pursued a career in music and is known by his stage name, G3.
His youngest son, LaMelo Ball, plays for the Charlotte Hornets and was voted the NBA Rookie of the Year for 2020-21.
The proud father dreams of his sons playing for the same team one day, believing it could be the ultimate winning formula for any NBA franchise.
"Nobody has ever built a franchise around a family. That's why I'm saying do something new. Build around the Ball boys and watch what happens," Ball told The Association on Fox.
LaVar Ball has two grandchildren. In 2018, his son Lonzo and his girlfriend Denis Garcia became parents to their daughter, Zoey. In 2023, LaAngelo and his partner, Nikki Mudarries, welcomed their first child, LaVelo Ball.
LaVar Ball, known for his bold future predictions, has already made one for his grandson, saying that LaVelo will be the number one pick one day.
"This how it goes, don't let that happen again. No. 1 pick right here, trust me when I tell you. Triple Bs finna run loose," Ball stated.
The Ball family is yet to make a statement regarding LaVar Ball's recent surgery.
