Hailee Steinfeld is in conversation about her upcoming project, a film called Sinners, where, for the first time, she will be portraying a multi-racial role that mirrors her real-life background.

In the film, the 28-year-old actress plays a character with a half-Black grandfather, which is similar to her mixed heritage, as a report in Blavity stated. She is of Black American and Filipino descent on her mother’s side.

Her maternal grandfather, Ricardo Domasin, passed away in 2014, per Rappler. She fondly called him “Papa,” who was of half-Filipino and half-African-American descent.

She also shared that the role brought her closer to her mom and grandfather. She told the outlet.

“[With this role], my imagination ran wild with thoughts of what his life might’ve looked like growing up, what his parents’ life might’ve looked like.”

According to People magazine, Steinfeld’s father, Peter, is a fitness trainer. He has also appeared on three episodes of Married… with Children, a comedy series, and in Hailee’s 2017 music video, Most Girls. Her mom, Cheri, is an interior designer and her manager. Her mother, Cheri Steinfeld, played a major role in preparing her for the entertainment industry. She told Variety in an interview,

“I went to my mom, and I asked her if I could do [acting], and she made me study for a year.”

"I would not be who I am or where I am if it weren't for my mother and my father and my brother. They have kept me in check every step of the way ... They have just made so many sacrifices for me to be where I'm at, and I am forever grateful.”

In December 2023, her father posted a birthday wish for his daughter, Hailee, where he described her as a “BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, TALENTED, COURAGEOUS, LOYAL, young woman.” He wrote that he is proud of her.

Hailee’s parents tied the knot in 1992. On Jan. 9, 1994, they welcomed her elder brother, Griffin Steinfeld, and Haillee was born on Dec. 11, 1996, according to a report in People magazine. Last year on her birthday, he shared a loving post for his sister and wrote,

“Happy birthday best friend!!! You’ve got such an amazing future to look forward to and I’m so proud of the amazing person you’ve become. Love you!!”

Her brother is a race car driver and the owner of a solar panel cleaning business. Hailee told Chicago Tribune while opening up on their bond.
