Renowned singer and actress Angie Stone passed away in a car accident on March 1, 2025, according to the reports. She was 63.

According to WSFA 12, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency informed the outlet that the crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Interstate 65 in Montgomery County. Her manager, Deborah Champagne, confirmed to the outlet that she was heading for a concert in Baltimore after performing in Montgomery, Alabama.

Eight other members of her group were injured in the crash and were reportedly rushed to the Baptist Medical Center South for treatment added the reports.

Diamond Stone, who is the daughter of Angie Stone and her ex-husband Rodney Stone, took to her Facebook account to share the devastating news and wrote:

“My mommy is gone.”

Diamond followed her mother’s footsteps and took to singing. As per a report in The Shade Room, in 2017 she contributed background vocals to her mother’s 2007 hit single, Baby.

Besides her daughter, Angie is survived by a son, D’Angelo Archer II, whom she shared with the musician D’Angelo. Her daughter’s emotional message has evoked a sudden interest in the mother-daughter relationship, which was reportedly affected by a 2015 incident. Here is everything to know.

The bond between Angie Stone and her daughter, Diamond Stone, was complex, marked by both love and conflict. In 2015, multiple outlets reported that Stone was arrested after she allegedly got involved in a physical altercation with her daughter.

As per a report in CNN the same year, Stone was charged with domestic aggravated assault. Another report in TMZ indicated that Angie claimed to be punched in the face by her daughter. She told police that she defended herself with a metal stand but accidentally hit Diamond in the face, which eventually knocked her front teeth.

She talked about the incident during an appearance on The Steve Harvey Show in 2016 and said that she was not responsible for knocking her daughter’s teeth. The singer-actor said:

“No, I did not knock out my daughter’s teeth. I think that in her defense, I think the tooth probably fell out because one had fallen out a week prior to that tooth falling out.”

She continued:

“And when you have an altercation as such, you can bite down on your lip, and if a tooth is already brittle and decaying, it’s coming out. If she bit down on a rotten, brittle tooth.”

Stone also admitted to being involved in an altercation with her daughter, and was not proud of it.

“We were definitely in an altercation” she said. “It’s not that I’m proud of it but you not going to fight me in my house. You’re not going to fight me period. I am your mother and that’s how that go. And there comes a time when you’re fighting another adult, you’ve got to defend yourself.”

Angie Stone was born in South Carolina, Unites States on December 18, 1961. She became famous in the late 1970s, as a member of the hip-hop trio, The Sequence, and would go on to be a part of the R&B trio, Vertical Hold, in the early 1990s, as per a report in LA Times.

According to a report in Page Six, she embarked on her solo career in the late 1990s and released her debut album, Black Diamond, in 1999.

She eventually transitioned into acting and is known for films like The Hot Chick (2002), Ride Along (2014), and Scary Movie V (2013). She has over 40 movie credits, as reported by CNN.

She also appeared in several TV shows including the sitcom Girlfriends and reality shows like Celebrity Fit Club and Celebrity Wife Swap. In 2003, she portrayed the role of Big Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway, as mentioned in Entertainment Weekly.
