The 2000s satirical psychological horror film American Psycho is available on a multitude of streaming platforms and it added one more thread to another service. It is now available on Disney+ alongside the Hulu subscription. Other platforms where audiences can see the film include Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and more.

It stars an ensemble cast including Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, and more and garnered $34 million on its $7 million budget. That came as a surprise to Bret Easton Ellis, who originally authored the story, as he didn't think that this material was something worth filming.

Before the release, it adopted an interesting promotion strategy, as one could register to learn Patrick Bateman's life by assuming the role of his therapist. It first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2000, and was later given a US and Canada-wide release on April 14, 2000.

Where is American Psycho streaming now?

American Psycho arrived at Hulu on January 1, 2025, where fans can watch it after purchasing a subscription worth $9.99 per month. That won't be the case for the new users, as they get the trial for free and are charged the mentioned sum. Hulu is available in bundles too, paired with HBO Max, Disney+, and ESPN+.

The bundle excluding ESPN+ is $16.99 a month with ads and $29.99 without ads at the time of writing. For the Hulu and Max bundle, it costs $9.99 a month for the former plan and $16.99 for the latter plan.

Users have a few options to rent American Psycho too, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Microsoft Store, and Spectrum. All of them will cost $3.99 for the film to be available for a limited time. Or they can choose to buy it for $12.99 but the option isn't available at Spectrum.

What is American Psycho about?

The film is about one's desires if one looks closely at them. The ending explains this, though it doesn't explain what in the world actually happened as Patrick Bateman comes to his senses and narrates how the experience has affected it. That will also leave a viewer wondering if Bateman is really a bad guy.

It tells the story of one investment banker living an affluent lifestyle but is seemingly not satisfied with it. The infamous card scene from the film cements that, as he finds it enraging when his colleagues show off their business cards. This begins a killing spree, beginning with a homeless man living with his dog.

Later, a stand-alone sequel dubbed American Psycho 2 was directed by Morgan J. Freeman (not to be confused with The Shawshank Redemption actor) with Mila Kunis in the lead. It failed to meet the bar set by its predecessor. As of now, that film sits with only 11% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 3.7 out of 10 on IMDb.

Ellis denounced it before the release and said in an interview that,

"If they're not careful they could end up with something like The Pink Panther movies. I've sold the rights, but I really don't know how they ended up with all of these rights."

Mila Kunis herself expressed embarrassment by claiming it was supposed to be a different project.
