Sinners will be released in theaters on April 18, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. This marks yet another collaboration between Ryan Coogler, the writer and director, and actor Michael B. Jordan. Here's the official synopsis:

Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

This period horror film is set in the 1930s, during the implementation of Jim Crow laws. In this article, we will explore all the shooting locations of the film. So, let's find out.

Where was Sinners filmed? Details Explored

Autumn Durald Arkapaw serves as the cinematographer for Sinners. Filming commenced on April 13, 2024, in New Orleans and wrapped up on July 17 of that same year. The crew utilized both 70mm and IMAX cameras. The choice of New Orleans as the primary filming location likely stems from its distinctive architectural style.

Several other portions were also filmed in Donaldsonville, a city in Louisiana. This might be due to its 19th-century appearance, which was required for the story. Labadieville is another nearby city that served as a filming location. Additionally, Bogalusa was used for shooting, featuring several wood-covered architectural designs.

Ryan Coogler gave an interview to Deadline where he spoke about convincing Michael B. Jordan to play twins. He said,

"It wasn’t hard, bro, to convince him. Mike’s very ambitious and you actually have a better chance to get him to say yes if the thing thing requires more of him. And I know that about him. I wanted to write a role for him that was worth his time and energy, where the execution of it was incredibly difficult. And honestly, I have more confidence in Mike and his abilities than anybody. And I did not expect him to be as good as he was in this. Just flat out, I think these two performances are the two best performances I’ve ever seen him give. And knowing who he is, Mike personally is very close to who the Stack character is. But seeing him become Smoke, as somebody who’s a friend of his, was very unnerving."

In that same interview, the director also spoke about how Warner Bros. granted him access to IMAX cameras to shoot the film.

Sinners will be released on April 18, 2025.
