Glastonbury 2025 is scheduled to be held from June 25, 2025, to June 29, 2025, at the Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, England in the UK. The 2025 edition will be the festival's last edition before the upcoming one-year hiatus in 2026. The festival tickets are completely sold out, with a resale of tickets set to be held in Spring 2025 from the official website of the festival.
The lineup of the festival has yet to be announced but a few artists were top contenders as performers for the upcoming edition of the festival. One of them was Neil Young, who has now come out to state he will not perform at the festival due to the involvement of BBC. In a statement posted on his website Neil Young Archives, the singer stated:
"The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all time favorite outdoor gigs. We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in."
The singer continued:
"It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being. Thanks for coming to see us the last time! We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be. Hope to see you at one of the other venues on the tour."
The organizers of the Glastonbury Festival have not commented on the singer's statement as of the writing of this article. The festival confirmed earlier in 2024 that Rod Stewart would perform at the 2025 edition of the festival. Nile Rodgers also confirmed that he and his band The Chic will perform at Glastonbury 2025.
Nile Rodgers to perform at Glastonbury 2025
Nile Rodgers confirmed that he will be performing at Glastonbury 2025 while appearing at the Rolling Stone Awards in London Roundhouse on November 28, 2024, stating:
"We’re going to have a blast because we follow him directly. Rod and I have been friends for 80 gazillion years, so that means he’s gonna play tricks on me… He’s probably gonna pinch my bum, because he always does that. I don’t know what the hell he gets out of that."
The singer continued:
We’re gonna have a great time together. I don’t know who’s in his current band, but we’ll probably be jamming. Regardless of what the world may think, Rod Stewart and I, we really love each other. We really are quite close.”
Nile Rodgers' announcement has not been confirmed by the festival itself, so his appearance at the festival is still unofficial as of the writing of this article. The previous edition of the festival, Glastonbury 2024, attempted to address the long-held criticism of the festival, that of the lack of female representation in the festival, especially the headliners.
The 2024 edition saw two female headliners, Dua Lipa and SZA, perform at the festival. Also performing at the venue were artists such as Cyndi Lauper and Shania Twain. However, the 2024 edition was plagued by technical difficulties, especially on the female artists' sets, which led to further criticism of the festival and its management.
It is unclear if Glastonbury 2025 will continue to address the problem of female and marginalized artists' representation or not at the moment. Glastonbury 2025 will announce its first wave of lineup in the early months of 2025.
