America's favorite sporting event of the year, Super Bowl 2025, is finally taking place tonight, and bets for the match are all over the place! As America straps down for an epic night of the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Eagles, fans are betting on several things as the tradition continues.

These range from betting for a clear winner at the game, something that the Chiefs are leading in now; betting on who the MVP will be this season, or who Taylor Swift will bring out for this year's game.

A popular bet going around is what color this year's Gatorade shower will be. The odds are in favor of the colors purple, green, and lime this season. Purple is the color the Chiefs chose for the last two consecutive years when they saw victory, and green and lime are the Philadelphia Eagles' colors.

In tradition, the Gatorade shower's color is revealed at the end of the Super Bowl after a clear winner is declared and the winning team approaches their coach with a large barrel of Gatorade, dunking him in it as a sense of victory. Over the years, this has been one of the most important traditions of the sporting event. Over the years it has become a popular topic of betting among fans.

How did the Gatorade shower tradition start?

Surprisingly, the Gatorade shower did not start during a Super Bowl. The tradition of the Gatorade shower goes back to 1986 when New York Giants' Jim Burt dumped a bottle of Gatorade on coach Bill Parcells after winning the match.

This was done as an act of spite, as the coach had chided Burt and had picked on him to do better during practice. What started as something bitter soon took the shape of a victorious tradition during the Super Bowl, where the winning team would drench their coach in Gatorade to celebrate the win.

Generally, the Gatorade color is linked to the Super Bowl team's colors. However, for the last two years, the Kansas City Chiefs broke this tradition by using purple Gatorade on coach Andy Reid, a color not associated with them.

If the Chiefs take the cup home for a third consecutive time, fans might get to see Reid dunked in a purple shower again. However, the odds this year are looking in favor of both teams, so look out for a cooler of green Gatorade showing up on Nick Sirianni.

Talking about the Gatorade shower, Jeff Kearney, Gatorade's head of global sports marketing, told ESPN.

"It turned into this thing that today, regardless of level of play – youth, high school, college, pro, international, you name it – a big moment, a seminal moment is oftentimes christened with that Gatorade shower,"

Super Bowl LIX is taking place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar is taking the central stage as the performer this year.

To watch the Super Bowl 2025, you can tune in to Fox, Fox Deportes, NBCUniversal’s Telemundo, or any of the NFL's broadcasting networks. As for streaming sites, it is available to stream on Hulu and TUBI.
