The Cannes Film Festival 2025 will be held from May 13 to 24, 2025. The festival celebrates the movie industry and thespians, and more than fifteen films will compete for the coveted Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) award in the Official Selection section.
The Un Certain Regard section will parallel the competition and highlight new talents from different countries. French actor Laurent Lafitte will do the honors of hosting the opening and closing ceremonies.
Acclaimed Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher will chair the jury of the Caméra d'Or. She will present the award to an exemplary first-time filmmaker on May 24, 2025.
The event will be streamed live on the Cannes Film Festival’s official website (Festival de Cannes) and its official YouTube channel. The festival’s social media pages will also provide live updates.

On April 10, 2025, Cannes’ Artistic Director Thierry Frémaux, alongside Festival President Iris Knobloch, announced the official selections for the Cannes Film Festival 2025 in a news conference.
Some of the entries include Young Mothers by two-time Palme d’Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier, starring Renate Reinsve, and Alpha, a film about an 11-year-old whose parent battles AIDS.

For the Un Certain Regard section, Scarlett Johansson makes her directorial debut with the movie Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb. Harris Dickinson will also feature his first film as a director, Urchin, under the section.

At the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival 2025, movie icon Robert De Niro will receive the honorary Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement. He will host a masterclass at the Théâtre Debussy the following day.
Tom Cruise, who received his honorary Palme d’Or in 2022, will return to the Cannes Film Festival for the Out of Competition premiere of Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning.
