Marvel's highly anticipated upcoming project Fantastic Four: First Steps is finally arriving in less than five months, and as fans get ready to meet Marvel's first family, speculations have been buzzing about the film's official run time.
Multiple sources and studio insiders have reportedly claimed that Fantastic Four: First Steps will probably be 1 hour and 37 minutes long. Although no confirmation from the studio has reached fans as of now, insider accounts from Marvel have reported this to be true. Many fans expressed their disappointment with Fantastic Four: First Steps' length on social media, raising concerns over how the film will explore the family's superheroic lore in less than two hours, considering it's an important project and one that holds vast potential.
If the reports are true, then this makes Fantastic Four: First Steps the shortest-ever Marvel project, surpassing The Marvels, who previously held the record for being 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
If the runtime is accurately leaked, then it's likely that the film will be fast-paced and will leave room for more of the team's stories to be explored in subsequent projects. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the studio will navigate through the new heroes' lives and what it will bring to Marvel's newest phase and chapter.
More about Fantastic Four: First Steps
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are coming together to form the Fantastic Four as Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and The Thing. Marvel's first family will be marking their new legacy after the 2015 film and several other appearances across other heroes' films. Previously, John Krasinski was rumored to play Richards, having played him in Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Later on, Pascal was cast as the hero, and regardless, fans couldn't be happier. The film is being directed by Matt Shakman.
The trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps shows the four in a retro-futuristic world, going about their normal lives until trouble shows up and they have to unleash their superheroic powers. Reviews on the film's first look have been largely positive, making things more optimistic about what the actual film would be like.
Talking about the new challenges they would face in the new film, the official synopsis reads,
"Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus' plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren't bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal."
Fantastic Four: First Steps is coming to theaters on July 25, 2025.
