What is Uncontested divorce? All we know about Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr.'s divorce

Vanessa Trump is back in the news after the Daily Mail broke the story of her reported relationship with golfer Tiger Woods. Previously, the 47-year-old model was married to Donald Trump Jr. for 12 years.

The former couple had filed for an uncontested divorce in 2018. At the time, Vanessa Trump’s father-in-law, Donald Trump, was serving as the 45th president of the U.S.

According to Cornell Law School’s website, an uncontested divorce means that the parties in question do not go through an adversarial litigation process. This essentially means that the couple in question do not have disagreements with regard to the terms of divorce, which include, but are not limited to, custody of children and division of property.

In a joint statement released to Page Six, Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr. had said,

“After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways, We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”

The same report by Page Six, which had broken the story about the couple’s divorce, also pointed out the fact that the divorce filing by Vanessa Trump at the Manhattan Supreme Court came on the same day as a subpoena was released by the special counsel Robert Mueller, which demanded that the Trump organization release information about Russia.

Donald Trump Jr. had been responsible for running the family business along with his brother, Eric Trump, ever since their father began serving his duties as the president of the U.S. According to a report by BBC, Donald Trump Jr. had come under scrutiny with regard to his meeting with a Russian lawyer who had allegedly shared information about Hillary Clinton’s alleged role in dealings with Russia.

Why did Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr. get a divorce?

The Hollywood Reporter had revealed that Donald Trump Jr. found it increasingly difficult to provide time for his wife Vanessa Trump because of his work and the extensive traveling that it required. Apart from work, Page Six also reported that Donald Trump Jr. would also travel frequently to enjoy his hobby of hunting. Trump Jr.’s penchant for hunting and the traveling that it required reportedly also ate up the time that he could spend with his former wife.

Apart from the strains on marriage that reportedly occurred due to a lack of time and attention, a report by The New York Times also highlighted Trump Jr.’s attitude when it came to spending money. The New York Times report alleged that when Trump Jr. was offered a free engagement ring for his wedding with Vanessa, he accepted the jeweler’s offer to announce the news of his engagement in the mall in exchange for the free ring.

The marriage between Trump Jr. and Vanessa also came under the strain of alleged charges of flirtatious behavior directed towards other women by Trump Jr. A model, Melissa Stetten, shared tweets that Trump Jr. had reportedly sent to her, according to The Hollywood Reporter. These tweets were sent to the model by Trump Jr. in 2011, just a few weeks after Vanessa had given birth to the couple’s third child, as per the same report.

Apart from such charges of flirtatious behavior towards other women, Trump Jr. was also allegedly involved in a romantic relationship with a pop star. According to US Weekly, the relationship between Trump Jr. and Aubrey O’Day had become quite serious to the extent that O’Day believed that Trump Jr. would leave Vanessa for her. As per the same report, Vanessa found email exchanges between her husband and O’Day, after which Trump Jr. broke off his relationship with the pop star.

Vanessa Trump currently lives in Florida with her children.
