The director of A Minecraft Movie, Jared Hess, has recently responded to the controversy surrounding the film's screening, as he spoke with Entertainment Weekly.

The film has met with controversy since its release, which is about the audiences' rampage and high levels of excitement-filled reactions to several scenes of the film, most famously for its 'Chicken Jockey' scene in the film.

Viewers at the theatres have been witnessed responding to it strongly by screaming, roaring, and even going to the extent of littering the theatres by hurling popcorns, in multiple videos posted by people online.

These reactions provoked theatre officials to intervene and bring control.

In the interview, when director Jared Hess was asked about his response to it, he said:

“It’s weird when you’re having too much fun and the cops get called”

Let us find out what more Jared Hess speaks about the A Minecraft Movie controversy.

"It's funny", says A Minecraft Movie director on the controversy surrounding the film's screening

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, when Jared Hess was asked about the controversy that has been stirred upon the screening of A Minecraft Movie, he further stated:

"It's funny because I think it's just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn. Yeah, it's hilarious. I've seen so many funny videos. It's great, especially when people are climbing on their friends' shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments. It's like this crazy anticipation. But, man, I'm just glad people are making memories with their friends and families."

Furthermore, Jared Hess then focussed on speaking about cinema-viewing as a community action rather than a solitary one, and the collective audiences' engagement into watching the movie together as a unit. He says:

"I'm just so happy that people are finding joy in going back to cinemas and seeing things as a community, as a group of people,"
"It's like we've become so isolated on our devices, and it's just fun to experience things as a group of human beings. I think people are starved for that experience. So it's fun that they've found it in this goofy movie that we've made."

However, the A Minecraft Movie controversy has led some theatre officials to step in and take some measures to control it. As per EW, theatres such as New Jersey's Township Theatre have made some strict rules and regulations upon the screening of the film. As per their Facebook post, they have reported about an incident at the film screening by mentioning:

We want to make all parents aware of an unfortunate situation that occurred at Township Theatre last night during a showing of The Minecraft Movie.
Large groups of unsupervised boys engaged in completely unacceptable behavior, including vandalism. We also received multiple complaints from other moviegoers who were trying to enjoy the film with their families. Video footage of the incident has been obtained.

In the post, the Management has precisely instructed minors who are interested in watching this film that they shall only be allowed to watch the film in the company of either of their parent or an answerable adult.

A Minecraft Movie has made its released on 4th April 2025 and is currently running in the theatres.
