Puppy Bowl is always special, but this time, it is going to be Superman special. All thanks to his best friend, Krypto the Superdog, whom James Gunn will bring to the event through a sneak peek featuring the cute dog whom the Kryptonian asked to take him home in the trailer.

If you don't know about it, Krypto is inspired by James Gunn's rescue dog himself, named Ozu, and will play a major role in the film. In contrast to the past movies featuring the superhero, this isn't going to be dark. We can expect a lot of colors, given the history of the filmmaker.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news and called it a significant marketing push by the creators. This certainly is going to be a big boost, given that 12.6 million people watched the last installment before the James Gunn movie hit the theatres. Viewers can watch it on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS, and TruTV.

Why is Puppy Bowl important for Superman?

We know that it has risen in popularity for the last couple of seasons as Puppy Bowl XIX garnered 13.2 million views, and 12.6 million people saw Puppy Bowl XX. Only Puppy Bowl III and IV can be called a success, given their viewership of 7.5 million and 8.5 million, respectively. The rest of the editions didn't do well in this context.

Now, the numbers are important here, though that doesn't mean that only a certain number of people will see it. Krypto the Superdog isn't that popular when it comes to Superman. But then James Gunn's Ozu is likely to be there, too, so it will likely spark a trend with this story.

Though a little of that story is already there on the internet. In one of his X (formerly Twitter) posts, he writes,

"Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman."

This is important for Superman for another reason; not many liked the fact that David Cornswet replaced Henry Cavill in the titular role. So, the sneak peek could help show the fans that this is an entirely new universe, and they might like it, maybe more than the previous one; only time will tell.

When is the next Puppy Bowl happening?

Except for the fact that Puppy Bowl XXI will happen on February 9, 2025, there aren't many details about the upcoming event. But then we know that it is inspired by the Super Bowl, but doesn't have any official association with it except that it is aired on the same day as the original event.

There is a "rufferree" instead of a referee to oversee the participants. The first four events had a runtime of 180 minutes, but Puppy Bowl V ran for just 120 minutes. In another change, 2015 saw the event being held in a team-based format.

Following that, Team Ruff and Team Fluff have been there since, competing with each other. Though the former team sounds tough, the latter is in the lead, having won 5 out of 9 clashes between them.

Some kitties join this party during the event for the Kitty Half-Time Show, which is similar to Super Bowl half-time shows where several celebrities perform in front of a large audience.
