Walt Disney Pictures is set to release the live-action/CGI remake of its 2002 film Lilo & Stitch on May 23, 2025. The production house will work alongside Rideback and director Dean Fleischer Camp for the upcoming science fiction movie. Chris Sanders, who was the man behind the lens for the original film, will lend his voice to the character Stitch.

The story revolves around a small lonely girl Lilo Pelekai (played by Maia Kealoha) from Hawaii and her sudden encounter with a dog-like extraterrestrial creature called Stitch, who has been genetically engineered. Shortly after the release of the first official teaser, fans have been excited and are speculating on how the plot will develop.

We got to have a first look at the mischievous alien Stitch after he crash lands on a Hawaiian beach and starts dismantling sand castles around him. The official synopsis of the movie reads:

"Lilo & Stitch chronicles the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction."

When is the live-action Lilo & Stitch set to be released?

Initially in 2022, there were questions regarding the release of Lilo & Stitch - whether it will have a theatrical release or an online premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar. Later, in 2024, it was confirmed by Walt Disney that the movie will be theatrically released in the United States on May 23, 2025.

After the original animated film's success in 2002 (grossing almost $273 million globally), the franchise is set to return to the big screen with its live-action/CGI reboot more than 20 years later. The first teaser has reportedly enthralled all Disney fans as they eagerly wait for Stitch to hit theatres next summer.
