Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema released The Conjuring in the US and Canada on July 19, 2013.
The Conjuring film synopsis
Ed and Lorraine Warren, two famous demonologists, look into the Annabelle case in 1968, when friends Debbie and Camilla had a possessed doll. They let the ghost, who identified herself as Annabelle Higgins, a seven-year-old child, take possession of the doll, but the hauntings grew more unsettling. The doll was never possessed, according to the Warrens, but rather served as a vehicle for a demonic spirit that wanted to possess one of the friends.
Roger and Carolyn Perron, along with their five daughters, Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy, and April, move into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, three years later, in 1971. Sadie, their dog, refuses to go inside the house. The first few nights are filled with paranormal activity as the family finds a boarded-up cellar in the house. At 3:07 a.m., all of the clocks in the house stop. Every morning, Carolyn wakes up with fresh bruises, and Sadie is discovered dead in the yard. A malicious spirit is encountered by both Carolyn and Christine.
Carolyn gets in touch with the Warrens, who carry out an initial inquiry. During this time, clairvoyant Lorraine discovers that a malevolent force has bonded to the family, making it impossible for them to leave the house. With the assistance of police officer Brad Hamilton and their aide Drew Thomas, they installed cameras and bells throughout the house to collect evidence.
According to research, the house was formerly owned by Bathsheba Sherman, a relative of Mary Towne Eastey and an accused witch and Satanist. She cursed everyone who took her land, sacrificed her week-old child to the devil, and killed herself at 3:07 a.m. in 1863. Since then, claims of multiple killings and suicides have surfaced in the homes constructed on the property.
Carolyn is totally under Bathsheba's dominance. When Lorraine finds the ghost of a woman Bathsheba was once possessed and forced into killing her child in the cellar, she decides to make Carolyn do the same. The Warrens decide they have enough proof to get permission from the Catholic Church to conduct an exorcism, but Father Gordon clarifies that since the Perron family is not a church member, permission would need to come straight from the Vatican.
In an attempt to warn the Warrens, Bathsheba attacks their daughter Judy. The demonic Carolyn brings Christine and April back to the house to murder them after the Perron family seeks safety at a motel. Ed tries the exorcism himself after he, Lorraine, and Brad bind Carolyn to a chair as time runs out. Ed carries out the exorcism and sends Bathsheba back to hell after Carolyn tries to kill April and escapes. Lorraine is able to call to her by reminding her of a family memory.
Ed goes back home and adds the haunting music box from the Perron residence to their collection of cursed relics from previous cases.
