Ad Vitam directed by Director Rodolphe Lauga is Netflix's new riveting action-thriller. Ad Vitam fully dives into the themes of allegiance, sacrificing oneself for another, and the disturbing side of being sincere in governmental services.
A vital character to the narrative in Ad Vitam, is Nico who is the best friend of the protagonist – Franck Lazareff, whose heartbreaking death turns out to be a crucial point in the film's story. The protagonist gets on board to achieve justice for the death of his best friend. Nico’s fate in Ad Vitam then highlights the shattering penalties of veiled schemes and plots planned by powerful officials.
Nico’s Death in Ad Vitam:
In the film Ad Vitam, Nico, a colleague and good friend of Franck along with a fellow officer in the French GIGN unit, goes face to face with death while on an undercover mission that heartbreakingly went haye wire.
On D-Day of the mission, Franck, Nico, and another one of their colleagues Ben, answer details regarding some apprehensive movement at a hotel and they decide to go check it out for themselves without taking along any kind of backup.
The trio’s intrusion takes a dark turn – something that none of them would ever imagine. Franck, the protagonist is the one who recognizes probable attackers. As Franck turns in to act on the same, Nico tries his best to confine one of the men. However, this interaction between all of them begins to worsen, and Nico is shot. While Franck attempts to defuse the attacker, Nico succumbs to his injuries and falls to the ground.
By the time external backup finally pulls up to the crime scene, Nico has lost his life in a mission gone wrong which leaves Franck feeling traumatized and crushed beneath a huge pile of guilt for the previously made decisions that eventually led to the brutal death of his friend in the film Ad Vitam.
The Aftermath of Nico’s Death in Ad Vitam
The ill-timed death of Nico vibrates throughout Ad Vitam time and time again. Franck, who is now troubled by the immense guilt and accountability for Nico’s death, meets immediate dismissal from the GIGN, and with this comes the end of his work life at the GIGN – something to which he had once dedicated himself.
To Franck, Nico was not merely a work colleague but a brother and a close friend who had once upon a time molded Franck’s perception of being loyal along with nurturing in him the importance of what family is supposed to mean.
Nico’s loss in Ad Vitam eventually pushes Franck to look for answers while in due course of time, detecting a series of venality and distortion all tied to the officials of the state.
As Franck dives and goes deeper and deeper into solving the case on his own, it becomes more and more apparent that Nico’s death was not just something that happened on the spot but rather it was a well-thought-out plan that came along with a much more ominous agenda.
This eye-opener then ignites a fire in Franck to search for justice, which puts him against strong personals who stand still at absolutely nothing to keep their secrets uncovered.
Nico’s heart-breaking death in Ad Vitam serves as more than just merely a plot point that simply drives the story further and further, it is also a mean that is attached to the major and vital dispute in the story.
His loss throws light on the weight of responsibility in a morally corrupt world. With Franck’s effort to fight for the right thing, Ad Vitam investigates the effect of fighting to uncover the truth no matter how bad the situation is or no matter how many odds are against you.
