Elrond and his twin brother Elros were born in the First Age to half-elven parents Eärendil and Elwing but later were kidnapped and raised by Maglor, one of the sons of Feanor. As accounted in the movies and the series, Elrond has been one of the major characters who looked out for the people of Middle Earth from the War of the Elves in the Second Age to the War of the Ring in the Third Age through his magical powers and leadership.
After the War of Wrath, Valar gave Elrond and his brother a choice—they could choose who they wanted to be counted amongst—men or elves. While Elros chose to be counted among the men, Elrond chose the elves. Therefore, he was sent to Lindon and acquired the healing powers that helped heal Frodo when he was critically injured after he was attacked with a Morgul blade by the Lord of the Nazgul in The Lord of the Rings movies.
Elrond also wields one of the most powerful elven rings, Vilya, among the three elven rings. Vilya, the ring of air, initially belonged to Gil-galad, as seen in The Rings Of Power series, but later was given to Elrond by him, as we can see in The Lord of the Rings movies. The three rings do not come under the influence of Sauron, and as a result, Elrond can hide Rivendell from his evil gaze and make it a haven for the fellowship and heirs of Gondor.
Apart from these powers, Elrond also has a rare power—the power of foresight and telepathic abilities, which he is seen using several times in The Lord of the Rings movies while communicating with Gandalf, Galadriel, and his daughter, Arwen.

Other than his magical powers, Elrond was also a great warrior and had fought several wars in his time.He was also instrumental in the ring's fellowship's establishment and in giving them a secure environment in which to train for the arduous journey that lay ahead.
Elrond also appeared to be a great advisor to many people, including Aragorn, the future king of Gondor, and is known as one of the wisest beings on Middle Earth.
