There's still hope that Andrew Garfield will end up swinging around in MCU's Spider-Man 4. Fans can literally find compilations of the actor lying about him not being in Spider-Man: No Way Home for minutes. And then he popped up eventually, and so did Tobey Maguire, and then we all jumped from our seats; some of us still do.
Now it's all coming back again. Andrew Garfield has outright denied his involvement in the next Spider-Man film. But now he has another weapon to prove his claim, which looks somewhat like 'people obviously don't believe him now. He isn't wrong.
But then chances of him popping up again are quite low, as Spider-Man 4 is likely to be a street-level saga rather than a multiversal one. However, we do know that Across the Spider-Verse made it quite normal for the multiversal friends from different dimensions to visit each other.
He isn't in Spider-Man 4 is a tough sell for him now
It is indeed hard trusting Andrew now but it's now easier for him to convince the audience that he isn't lying this time until he appears in the upcoming film. For now, this is all he has to say when he was talking to GQ UK,
"I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.
Oh, Andrew, we so want you to disappoint us, but please disappoint us with this statement by appearing in Spider-Man 4. If not this film, then the MCU at least needs to think about him bringing back while the Multiverse saga lasts; that would be in 2027 when Avengers: Secret Wars will be released.
Fans are speculating about Garfield's return as the web-slinger, even if it be with a potential The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. This one Instagram user even made a fan art that crosses paths with his arch nemesis Venom.
Until the Tom Holland film arrives, we are likely to see more of those fan theories pop up, as in how the Amazing Spider-Man could end up in what seemingly will be a street-level war.
Did Andrew Garfield drop a hint for his return as Spider-Man?
There was more in the GQ UK interview, which adds to fans' speculation. Following his denial of being in Spider-Man 4, he said,
"If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun. Maybe I'm gonna have like five kids at some point, and I'm gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something."
He isn't talking about Spider-Man but any other big franchise, as was clearly mentioned in the GQ UK story.
Fans should take this as the end of the story; in fact, Andrew has clearly explained before he is open to doing that role. He told Esquire in October 2024 that,
"I love that character, and it brings joy. If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m joyful in return."
We don't know if he will ever return as the Webslinger in Spider-Man 4. At least we shouldn't expect it now. If anyone wants to look forward to his next appearance on the screen, they should better do it for Voyagers, where he is playing the planetary scientist Carl Sagan.
