The Invincible fandom has been buzzing ever since creator Robert Kirkman casually dropped the bombshell that Thragg has officially been cast. In a recent interview with Variety, Kirkman confirmed that the iconic villain of the series is no longer a mystery. Well, at least not to the people who know who it is.
“He’s been cast, and he’s amazing,” Kirkman said.
And just like that, the internet spiraled into a frenzy of speculation, memes, and desperate pleas for a name drop. That's because if there’s one thing Invincible fans love more than a good fight scene, it’s wildly theorizing about casting choices.
The Internet goes wild over Invincible’s Thragg casting
It all started with a simple post about Kirkman’s announcement. No trailer. No teaser. No cryptic silhouette with a “WHO COULD IT BE?” caption. Just one short confirmation. And yet, that was all it took for fans to launch into a full-scale investigation with the intensity of a CSI episode.
The biggest takeaway? Everyone is absolutely convinced that Bryan Cranston is not playing Thragg. Why? Well, because Kirkman didn’t say his name. And that was enough for the internet to start cracking jokes about who it could be.
One fan wasted no time pointing out the obvious:
“Well, we all know he isn't played by Bryan Cranston.”
A perfectly valid deduction. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that when a major casting decision is made, the first rule is to confirm it’s not Bryan Cranston. The second rule? Suggest Bryan Cranston anyway.
Another fan (via @animationisCOOL) took the opposite approach, imagining a world where Invincible pulled off the biggest plot twist in casting history:
“Imagine if they finally got Bryan Cranston that would be funny, lmao.”
See? It’s the Schrödinger’s Cat of casting he’s both the most and least likely person to play the role at the same time.
Of course, the internet can’t resist throwing Chris Pratt into the mix. Because if there’s a voice acting role up for grabs, there’s always that one person who believes in the ultimate casting chaos theory.
One user (via @StarlitKings) on X wrote,
“Chance to do the funniest thing and have Chris Pratt voice him.”
We don’t know who Thragg is, but we do know that the internet will never stop trolling about Chris Pratt potentially voicing every character in existence.
One user ( via @JTrxpgaming on X) kept things short and mysterious, claiming insider knowledge:
“Jon Bernthal. I’m from the future.”
Alright, Mr. Time Traveler, drop the lottery numbers while you’re at it.
Then there was this fan, who decided to manifest a Walking Dead crossover because why not?
“Hear me out… Andrew Lincoln would be so meta.”
Honestly? That wouldn’t be the worst idea. Rick Grimes leading the Viltrumite Empire has a certain poetic justice to it.
And then there’s the one person (via @kidfromindy) who just couldn’t take it anymore:
“I NEED TO KNOW WHO.”
Same, buddy. Same.
The internet may be in meltdown mode, but Kirkman is holding his cards close to his chest. Whether it’s an A-list actor, a surprise pick, or someone no one saw coming, one thing’s for sure Invincible fans won’t stop guessing (or making memes) until the truth comes out.
For now, all we can do is sit back, enjoy the chaos, and keep throwing out ridiculous casting suggestions just in case we accidentally get it right. Maybe it is Bryan Cranston and this is all an elaborate misdirection. Maybe Kirkman’s secretly voicing him himself. Maybe they just got J.K. Simmons again and figured no one would notice.
Whatever happens, one thing’s clear: when Thragg finally makes his debut in Invincible, the internet is going to explode. Until then, we’ll just be here, refreshing Twitter and hoping Kirkman finally cracks under pressure.
