Home Box Office (HBO), part of Warner Bros., primarily showcases a mix of movies that have been in theaters, original TV series, made-for-cable films, documentaries, comedy specials, concerts, and short behind-the-scenes programs.

HBO runs seven 24-hour channels and also offers a subscription service called HBO On Demand. HBO's content is a key feature of Max (formerly HBO Max from 2020 to 2023), a larger streaming platform that is managed separately but still connected to HBO. Max also includes original shows and content from Warner Bros.


Five must-watch HBO shows and movies for a fun weekend

1) Máxima

Máxima is a Dutch biographical TV series created by Videoland. It’s based on the 2022 book Patria, los primeros años de Maxima Zorreguieta by Marcia Luyten. The show focuses on Queen Máxima of the Netherlands’ early life and her relationship with Willem-Alexander.

It first aired in the Netherlands on April 20, 2024, and in Spain on June 19, 2024. In Latin America, it premiered on August 15, 2024, on Max. The series shows how Máxima met Willem-Alexander in 1999, with flashbacks to her childhood in Argentina, her university years, and her work in New York as an economist.


2) The Thaw

The Thaw is a Polish crime drama series created by Marta Szymanek. It takes place in Szczecin and follows a detective solving the murder of a young mother.

The show first aired on HBO Max on April 1, 2022. The main character, Detective Katarzyna Zawieja, is a widow. While investigating the murder of the young woman and her newborn, she is also dealing with the loss of her own husband.


3) The Watchers

In The Watchers, a young artist named Mina gets trapped in a spooky Irish forest with three strangers. Each night, they are watched by terrifying creatures called "The Watchers." With its creepy atmosphere and shocking twists, this supernatural horror series is perfect if you love to be scared. The show explores folklore, shapeshifters, and hidden secrets.


4) Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice is a 1988 dark fantasy comedy by Tim Burton. Barbara and Adam Maitland die in a car accident and return home as ghosts. Unable to leave the house, they realize they must scare away the new owners, the Deetz family.

A sequel to Beetlejuice, titled Beetlejuice 2, was recently released, bringing back the iconic characters and introducing new twists to the beloved dark comedy.


5) The Garfield Movie
