Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the hottest topics from last year. It was recently brought back into the spotlight amid actress Blake Lively's lawsuit against the It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.

It was in regard to Nicepool, a minor character from the 2024 movie. Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman has brought this Deadpool movie character to the legal battle. He alleges that the character came into the picture while Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds' wife, Lively, was in the middle of the filming of It Ends With Us.

After the contentious production of the film, Lively filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the director and actor Baldoni. A few months later, Baldoni's attorney brought Nicepool into the legal dispute, which allegedly mocks Baldoni. It has led to discussions regarding the origins of this character, when it was conceived, and when his scenes were shot for the film.

Deadpool & Wolverine shows numerous variants of Reynolds' on-screen character. Together, these variants constitute the Deadpool Corps., most of whom appear in a battle scene at a film's crucial scene. One of them is Nicepool, played by Reynolds without any kind of mask on. This character has long hair tied into a man-bun. Nicepool reveals that his partner, Ladypool (voiced by Lively in the film) just had a baby but notes, " You can't even tell."

Deadpool objects to it and tells Nicepool, "I don't think you're supposed to say that," but Nicepool says that "it's okay" because "he identifies as a feminist." While this conversation made the film's final cut, an outtake was a part of the home entertainment release. There, Nicepool reportedly says that:

“[his] calling is to one day start a podcast that monetizes the women’s movement.”

It is brought back into the discussion considering Baldoni's public image as an ally to women and a podcast called The Man Enough, which he co-hosted. Baldoni also had a hairstyle similar to Nicepool's, with a man-bun, in the past.

In the Deadpool & Wolverine shooting script, Nicepool was reportedly described as:

“He’s immaculate. He wears a Deadpool suit with no mask,”

The further description of Nicepool's suit notes it as:

"The suit looks like Yves Saint Laurent himself slummed it and designed a Marvel film. The man’s about twenty percent more muscular and after a pretty healthy session in Lola, looks like a younger RYAN REYNOLDS in his prime before his looks were ravaged by four children and ten side hustles. The man’s a goddamn angel.”

As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, Nicepool's character was written before the dispute between Lively and Baldoni at the time of filming It Ends With Us. The audio commentary for the film with director Shawn Levy and co-writer Reynolds states that the costume Nicepool was conceived even before the costume for Deadpool was finalized, much before the dispute on It Ends With Us.

THR sources say that the scenes featuring Nicepool were shot after the SAG-AFTRA strike, reportedly in the final days of the filming, which wrapped up in January 2024.

Baldoni attorney Bryan Freedman sent letters to Disney's Bob Iger and Marvel Studios's Kevin Feige. Through that, he asked their studios to hold on to the documents related to the creation of Nicepool intact. He alleges that this character was used to mock Baldoni and was worked upon during the filming of Baldoni's directorial venture.

Freedman also asks to keep any data related to Deadpool (2016) director Tim Miller's exit from the franchise as a result of reported creative differences with Reynolds.
