NFL legend Steve McMichael passed away at the age of 67 after a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was initially diagnosed with the disease in 2021, as reported by the NFL.
His death was confirmed by sports anchor Jarrett Payton, who announced the news on X on April 23, 2025. He wrote:
“With deep sorrow, I share that Steve McMichael passed at 5:28 PM after a brave fight with #ALS, surrounded by loved ones," Payton began. "I’m grateful to have been with him in his final moments. Please keep Steve and his family your prayers. #Bears.”
After retiring from his NFL career, McMichael began wrestling in 1995. He competed primarily in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he was part of the famous Four Horsemen stable. His wife Misty Davenport, stayed with him throughout his health battle.

But she did receive an offer from Vince McMahon (right before he retired) to team with her husband against Steve Austin and Debra in the ring, but she turned it down to prioritize Steve's health, according to a report in Fightful.
