Warfare cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the upcoming action movie

Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza initially chose Hollywood America Legion Theater in Los Angeles for their film Warfare over a red carpet premiere. According to IndieWire, the audience mostly belonged to the military community. Mendoza himself belongs to the same, and the fact that the film is based on his experience makes it a must-watch film for them.

But it was premiered at DGA Theater Complex, which is in LA only, where the members of the cast, which is a culmination of rising Hollywood stars, joined it. D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Cosmo Jarvis, Joseph Quinn, and more are there in the cinematic depiction of this small part of the Iraq War.

The film will hit the theaters on April 11, 2025, and A24 is in charge of the distribution. It's already met with rave reviews and Rotten Tomatoes is showing 94% critic approval based on 34 reviews at the time of writing. There is a whole bunch of talent in there and we will now see who plays whom in the movie.

The cast of Warfare

D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Ray Mendoza

D'Pharaoh is in the lead as Ray Mendoza in Warfare and serves as a communicator and a Joint Terminal Attack Controller. He makes sure air support won't miss a target there.

Cosmo Jarvis as Elliot Miller

While Warfare is about a band of brothers, Will Poulter said during the film's first look that the story kind of hinges around Ray Mendoza and Elliot Miller. We have already mentioned D'Pharaoh is the former, while the latter, who is the lead sniper and a medic, is portrayed by Shogun's (2024) Cosmo Jarvis. You will soon see him playing a role in the next Christopher Nolan film.

Will Poulter as Erik

Will Poulter has been a socially awkward neighbor and an artificial being, and now he is a soldier in this real account of an Iraq War incident, playing the squad leader Erik in Warfare.

Joseph Quinn as Sam

Stealth can be of use in military operations at times, and Joseph Quinn has some handy experience of it from A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) but that isn't going to help much in the Alex Garland movie where he plays a petty officer, Sam.

Michael Gandolfini as Lt. McDonald

Just recently, Vincent D'Onofrio's William Fisk realized Michael Gandolfini's Daniel Blake is one loyal man in his office during Daredevil: Born Again (2025). Well, it appears like his band of brothers can rely on him in Warfare too, where he plays Lt. McDonald, who is a Foreign Service Officer and a Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company member.

Henry Zaga as Aaron

Many of you don't know this but Henry Zaga has played a Human Torch-like role, Sunspot, in Marvel's The New Mutants (2020). We had to bring this up as Joseph Quinn is about to be introduced in The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Human Torch. Zaga is serving as a point man in Warfare, and he scouts for potential threats in the region.

Alex Brockdorff as Mikey

We have another point man in the Warfare squad, who is also a gunner, called Mikey. Alex Brockdorff, who is playing the character, has appeared as a part of a tank crew in the war film Fury (2014).
