Helmer of the forthcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps, Matt Shakman, has recently talked in detail about the film to Empire Magazine.
The director shed light about the film's easter eggs and also legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick's influence in the making of the film.
The upcoming Marvel film is influenced by the vintage-futuristic style of the 1960s. Not only in terms of its visual aesthetics, but also, Shakman is incorporating certain moviemaking styles of that era as well. In the interview, he also reveals that there is no presence of any easter eggs in the film.
As per his interview with the magazine, Shakman expresses his vision about the film by saying:
“I really wanted it to feel like it was made in 1965, the way Stanley Kubrick would have made it”

As per reports at the Empire Magazine, it is revealed that, Matt Shakman, is not only incorporating the aesthetics of the retro era, but also using certain tools of that time. Tools such as the camera lenses of the 1960s have been utilised in order to bring out the authentic sense of that time.
The film shall balance the usage of both old and new technology, as they would still include computer graphics, as Shakman reveals in the interview by saying:
“Of course, we still have a lot of CG.”
What also makes Fantastic Four: First Steps a fresh and unique film in the Marvel Universe lies in the compelling choices the filmmaker makes. Unlike the common MCU tradition, this film shall not bear any easter eggs, as revealed by Matt Shakman. As he spoke to the magazine, he explains:
“There’s really no [other] superheroes. There’s no Easter eggs. There’s no running into Iron Man or whatever. They’re it in this universe. I love the interconnected Marvel Universe, but we get to do something so new and so different.”
Fantastic Four: First Steps is rather ought to create its own distinctive world, something that Shakman considers to be "wonderful and liberating,”
Along with Easter eggs, Matt Shakman also clarifies that this film does not borrow any wormholes as well.
Further in the interview, Shakman draws interesting parallels with the storyline of Fantastic Four: First Steps with a certain, significant historical context. He considers the film to be an amalgamation of Marvel and the historical event of Apollo 11.
Matt Shakman elucidates as he says:
“This is very much about the spirit of the Space Race. It’s about JFK and optimism. It’s imagining these four going into space instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin,”
“This idea is that they are the most famous people in America because they’re adventurers, explorers, astronauts—not because they’re superheroes.”
Fantastic Four: First Steps shall come to the theatres on 25th July, 2025. The film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ralph Ineson, and many others.
