Soulja Boy recently performed at the pre-inauguration ball celebration of President Donald Trump, held on January 17, 2025. The singer's performance at the event has since then generated backlash on social media, to which the singer has now responded with a live post no longer directly available and here quoted via Hot New Hip-Hop's post on the matter on January 19, 2025:
"They paid me a bag. Obama ain't never put no money in my f*cking pockets, n***a. Kamala ain't never put no money in my f*cking pockets, n-gga. Trump put money in my pockets, n***a."
He later added:
"Y’all s*ck my d*ck, n***a. Y’all want me to not answer the phone for the f***king president? This n***a the president of the motherf**king United States. Trump wasn’t even there. It wasn’t even a Trump event. It was the Crypto Ball for crypto. And I’ll go again."
In another live stream, also not available directly and here quoted via the social media post by X user SHO' Nuff, the singer stated he had been misled a bit on the Crypto Ball performance:
“I ain’t going to lie, though. Them folks did try to trick me, though. Halfway, I was like, ‘Man, f**k this n***a Trump. I don’t f**k with this n***a,’ then halfway, I was like, ‘N***a, the president.’ You feel me? But whatever, man…the n***a wasn’t there."
Soulja Boy was not the only one who performed at the Crypto Ball event. Other performers at the event were Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross. The event was a sold-out success, as per the venue's official website. The event was organized by BTC Inc., Stand with Crypto, Anchorage Digital, Exodus, and Kraken.
The event, as mentioned above, was in support of Donald Trump's presidential inauguration, with the website quoting Trump as the 'crypto president' on its FAQ page regarding the event.
Soulja Boy released his latest studio album in 2022
Soulja Boy released his latest studio album, Big Draco 3, in 2022. The third in the Big Draco series of albums, the album was preceded by the other two albums in the series, Big Draco and Big Draco 2 in 2021. However, the singer remains most well known for his debut Souljaboytellem.com, which was released under the name Soulja Boy Tell'Em.
The singer talked about the album in an exclusive interview on August 27, 2007, with DJBooth, here quoted via the reposted article on DJ Booth released on March 29, 2018:
"I’m trying to tell the people to look out for me—I’m the next generation of hip-hop, it’s a movement what I’m startin’ right now. The album is gonna be crazy—it covers every base of good music: hip-hop, R&B, it’s got humor on there."
The singer continued:
"It’s a very powerful album. And what I’m telling you—you have to listen. When you pay attention to what I’m saying and my lyrics, the things that I do, the trends that I set, the following that I have… it’s like, “Damn,” it gonna be crazy."
Soulja Boy has previously faced backlash for incidents such as criticizing the United States Army back in September 2011, and more recently, for criticizing Metro Boomin in 2024 in response to a 2012 tweet. The singer subsequently apologized for both events after facing backlash, unlike the Crypto Ball backlash.
