Toxic Town: Release date, plot, cast and more about Netflix's upcoming drama miniseries 

Set in the small town of Corby, Netflix’s upcoming limited series Toxic Town is based on the true story of the environmental scandal that shook England in 2009.

Toxic Town narrates the story of a group of mothers who fight for the health of the children of the town. Through resilience and a strong sense of justice, the women unite to take on a powerful steel industry whose negligence and greed led to the Corby poisoning. The Corby toxic waste battle was an intense court case that saw several affected families pursue legal action against the industry. The case was famously referred to as the ‘British Erin Brockovich’.

Toxic Town will premiere on Netflix on February 27. The miniseries will have four episodes with a running time of 60 minutes.

The plot of Toxic Town

Toxic Town follows three mothers in the former steel town of Corby whose children develop birth defects due to the town’s toxic waste mismanagement. The mothers bravely confront the town’s leadership and garner attention to the dire situation they find themselves in. The series looks at years of their fight starting from the 1980s and how the truth takes the whole country by surprise.

While discussing the show, Toxic Town writer Jack Thorne said:

‘It’s a story of people who are not part of the system that have never thought the system would work for them, working within the system and [fighting for] the result they deserved.’

Toxic Town’s ensemble cast

Jodie Whittaker, known for her performance in Dr. Who takes on this mammoth role along with Aimee Lou Wood, Claudia Jessie, and Rory Kinnear. Each character requires a portrayal filled with gravitas and sincerity, which is expected from a project like this.

Thorne spoke about the cast:

‘Each of them just brought something new that I’d never seen them do before. And when you’re with a cast that’s doing that consistently, it’s so exciting to watch and it’s so beautiful.’
