A poignant tale of family, redemption, and raw competition in the world of mixed martial arts, directed by Gavin O'Connor, is about two estranged brothers-Tommy, played by Tom Hardy, and Brendan, played by Joel Edgerton-as they enter a high-stakes mixed martial arts tournament, but for very different reasons. Tommy enters to escape his traumatic past, and Brendan for his family's life on the verge of financial ruin. Nick Nolte delivers an Oscar-nominated performance as the boy's father, a recovering alcoholic that makes the drama richly dramatic.
