The first official poster for Nosferatu has fans buzzing, and many are venting their hype on X (formerly Twitter). Based on the 1922 original silent classic, director Robert Eggers has remade this film, with Bill Skarsgård playing the creepy Count Orlok.

Skarsgård is known for his dark roles, and his take on the sinister vampire is nothing if not attention-grabbing. Nosferatu hits screens on December 25, 2024, and it will most likely be one of the biggest horror hits of the year.

Fans of Eggers' other movies, like The Witch and The Lighthouse, have much to be excited about as regards his take on this gothic horror story. As it's coming around the holidays, some even joke that this creepy movie might become a new Christmas tradition!

The excitement surrounding the Nosferatu poster was evident on social media, especially on X. @ASometimesBest posted a light-hearted comment:

“This could become a Christmas tradition, like watching the Muppet Christmas Carol.”

@spikedcinema chimed in with hopes for more promotional content, writing,

“We gotta be getting a new trailer soon to play before the horror movies in theaters in October. The first teaser was perfect.”

For some, Nosferatu is a breath of fresh air in the modern horror film landscape. @radauteanu7 expressed their enthusiasm as follows:

“Finally a movie I'm truly excited for.”

The director's dedicated fans were talking about it, too. @MothersOfPop tweeted their thoughts with a lot of enthusiasm.

“My most anticipated movie of my entire life. Eggers is GOD!!!!!!!”

The stellar cast has added to the buzz around the film. Referring to the star-studded cast, including Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe, @BADMMAMath noted,

“What a lineup.”

In the end, @torchw1ck shared a personal note, mentioning how excited they are to see Eggers' latest film hit the big screen.

“I missed the chance to see The Lighthouse in theaters, not missing this one.”

Robert Eggers’ gothic take on Nosferatu

With movies as great as Nosferatu, Robert Eggers has marked his works with very historically rooted horror films. This version of Nosferatu will likely stay true to that vibe: dark and atmospheric. It'll explore the obsession and fear that the eerie Count Orlok brings.

Inspired by the original silent film of 1922 and Bram Stoker's Dracula, Eggers is set to give classic horror his spin. Fans cannot wait to see his approach toward visuals, which would be magnificent yet eerie. It's a mix of the dark and ominous tone of the original film in a new cinema style.

The cast already boasts Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok. Skarsgård's similar roles include It and Castle Rock. Eggers mentioned in interviews that his version isn't just a remake but a new spin on vampire stories. It's been nearly ten years since he has been working on it.

Much of the hype about Nosferatu stems from Bill Skarsgård's take on the legendary Count Orlok. After playing Pennywise in It and ensuring sleepless nights with his terrifying performance, he knows how to play characters that make one's skin crawl. But this will be a new dimension for him. Speaking to Esquire recently, Skarsgård teased that you won't recognize him in the movie.

He spoke about the efforts to create the makeup tests to design Count Orlok to be a little creepy but also strangely attractive so that that vampire became scary but fascinating. Skarsgård was committed to this role, making serious physical changes and long makeup sessions. Fans can expect a different version of the vampire from those in Twilight or Morbius.

Orlok is a creepy character, following in the vision of Bram Stoker for Dracula: an obsessed, desirous, fearful being. Eggers, on the directing end, with Skarsgård taking on the role, is shaping this film to stand out in modern horror by combining gothic romance with a bit of good old-fashioned scares.

Nosferatu hits theaters this Christmas.
