Charlize Theron is coming back to Netflix soon with The Old Guard 2 and the latest updates on the first look has already garnered quite some social media attention. The upcoming sequel is being eyed for an early July release this year and considering the success of the first film (in terms of streaming chart numbers), the second installment has a lot to cover.
The story revolves around a group of immortal mercenaries and their on-field operations where a only thin veil stands between life and death (even though they can regenerate). Per Tudum, recently lead star Charlize Theron (portrays Andy aka Andromache of Scythia) reportedly opened up about The Old Guard 2 saying it will be bringing "something for everyone". To quote her exact words:
"There’s something for everyone in this movie: Fans who loved the first film, fans who love the original graphic novels — and brand-new fans who are looking for insane action, grounded and relatable characters, gorgeous locations, and a global cast of superstars."
What did Charlize Theron say about The Old Guard 2? Details explored
As per Charlize Theron's recent statement to Netflix, the Old Guard franchise is growing actively and a lot of new faces will appear in the much-anticipated sequel. Many stars will also reprise their respective roles including:
- KiKi Layne (Nile Freeman)
- Ngô Thanh Vân (Quỳnh)
- Marwan Kenzari (Joe / Yusuf Al-Kaysani)
- Matthias Schoenaerts (Booker / Sebastian Le Livre)
- Luca Marinelli (Nicky / Nicolò di Genoa)
The Old Guard 2 will be no less intense with the stakes being a lot higher this time and Andy's fate in question (given that she is no longer immortal). On the contrary, Nile (who died at first) has gained immortality and is now a part of the team of mercenaries.
Charlize Theron, per Tudum, reportedly left teasers from the second part saying that 'gorgeous locations' have been visited this time for filming and fans will definitely witness 'insane action' - probably even more than the previous film. She further added about the cast and plot, mentioning:
"Quyhn is back and her story continues, and we’re all excited to have Uma Thurman and Henry Golding join us as two key new players in the Old Guard universe. Andy and her warriors are back with a renewed sense of purpose. "
