When Will The Wedding Banquet Be Released?

The Wedding Banquet made its way to debut at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival this year, capturing some early thrill for its warm and humoristic storytelling abilities. The film is reportedly expected to have a theatrical release on the 18th of April, 2025.

What Do We Know About the Plot?

At its very core, The Wedding Banquet is a story that talks about everyday basics like relationships— whether it be romantic, familial, and/or platonic.

The film follows four queer friends who navigate their way through love, challenges that arise through or because of immigration purposes, and some personal problems, all while continuing to maintain their tight-knit bond.

One of the four friends is a character named, Angela who is a scientist and is seen to be stressed out and struggling due to her mom’s overwhelming but well-meaning support. Her partner, Lee works at an LGBTQ+ resource center and is the more composed and calm out of the two of them.

Angela’s best friend's name is Chris, a former academic turned birdwatching guide and he now shares a garage with his boyfriend Min who is an art teacher whose well-off grandmother frowns upon the choices of his career.

The four of them and their balanced-looking life is up side downed by two major catastrophes:

1) Due to a failure in IVF treatments, Angel and Lee face financial issues

2) due to the expiration of his Visa, Min is required to distance himself from his boyfriend Chris.

With Min eagerly wanting to stay back in the US, he makes up a plan that requires him to marry Angela which he thinks would resolve both of their issues.

What begins as a convenient agreement between the four of them, the plan rapidly twists and turns into a maze of obstacles, mainly when Min’s grandma suddenly arrives to meet Angela.
