The Wedding Banquet cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the latest rom-com?

It's hard to pull off the same feel of a film when a director is making a remake. We are talking about good films. Yes, there are good films and bad films. David Lynch's Dune (1984) was, well, not bad, but you have to accept Denis Villeneuve's version was better. Ang Lee's 1993 film, The Wedding Banquet, was a good film, and we can say the reimagining by Andrew Ahn is a good one too.

It's about a group of four friends—or you can say a couple of pairs—Chris, Lee, Angela, and Min—who find themselves in the middle of something where the situation demands an exchange of partners. There's an unlikely friends-with-benefits bond between a couple of best friends, which they, as everyone who does that, regret.

Kelly Marie Tran as Angela

We'll begin with Angela Chen, portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran, someone who's trying to have a baby with her partner, Lee, via in vitro fertilization. However, her partner thinks they cannot afford it. This later leads to an argument, but Angela eventually gets pregnant.

Lily Gladstone as Lee

Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)—that's the film that should pop up in fans' minds when they think of Lily Gladstone today. Though The Wedding Banquet has an entirely far-fetched theme from the 2023 film, Gladstone's character does one thing the same here: giving her partner Angela a space to share in her home. Yes, Gladstone plays Lee in the film.

Bowen Yang as Chris

Bowen Yang is Chris in The Wedding Banquet, and he's Angela's best friend in it. Thanks to Lee, who has allowed her partner's best friend to live in her garage, she shouldn't be worried about it, right? Well, in case you forgot, we mentioned an unlikely friends-with-benefits bond that happens between Chris and Angela. Yeah, Chris is the father of Angela's baby.

Yang isn't really into acting, but writing and has written sketches for Saturday Night Live. But apart from The Wedding Banquet, he has appeared in movies like Bros (2022), Wicked (2024), and more.

Han Gi-chan as Min

Lastly, the fourth main person in The Wedding Banquet would be Han Gi-chan, who plays Min, Chris' boyfriend. Well, you can figure out how heartbroken Min was after the revelation about that unlikely friends-with-benefits bond. As we know, Lee and Angela aren't able to afford their IVF treatment. Min asks Angela for a fake marriage for a green card, and if she agrees, the next round of IVF is on him. Guess he won't be doing that now.
