The Thunderbolts* might be the next Avengers and General Ross could be the reason why

Thunderbolts* will be in a rock and hard place as we saw the new trailer laying down the foundation of the path they are going to walk. And with an updated synopsis, it comes to light that Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) created it. She has assembled them and dropped them in a box together with some danger, actually, a lot of danger.

Members of the team aren't really fond of her; things are sour between them, which gives us a high likelihood of this being escalated. If that happens, what could be next for them? They'll be independent for one, and secondly, Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) is looking to rebuild the Avengers after he tore them apart, thanks to the Sokovia Accords, from what we recently saw in one of the Captain America: Brave New World clips.

And by the looks of it, Ross has a change of heart after the original team brought half of humanity back from the dead. Given that he is Mr. President now, he needs to keep the evil at bay. But by its history, Red Hulk assembled them as a non-government-sponsored strike team; this can get things a bit complicated.

How Thunderbolts* may put Ross in charge of these antiheroes

Red Guardian still holds his ground that they call themselves the Thunderbolts in Thunderbolts*. That asterisk is still likely there, so we are open to suggestions. Ross might have a name for them; he can call them the Avengers.

Valentina has already cleared the air in an assembly when she said,

"Let's talk facts. The Avengers are not coming."

And then there's the new Captain America (Anthony Mackie), to whom the Red Hulk-to-be Thaddeus Ross came and proposed they rebuild the Avengers. Valentina is likely to use the team in Thunderbolts* as a personal hit squad. However, Sentry's role has now become a topic of debate after the Void showed up in the latest Thunderbolts* trailer.

That leads us to the conflicting reports saying Ross may appear in a cameo. If that ever comes to fruition, wouldn't that be like when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) first came to him with the idea of the Avengers in his The Incredible Hulk cameo? He never says the word "Avengers," but that was pretty obvious. Maybe he'll wear a nice suit like Stark did while meeting him. After all, he's POTUS now.

But this guy cannot really be trusted if we go by the history

The highly successful chief investment officer of Bridgewater Associates, Ray Dalio, always teaches us to take a look at history to predict what may happen in the future. All we know is that history has a habit of repeating itself.

Thaddeus Ross may appear in Thunderbolts*. Maybe he is looking to rebuild the Avengers. But that doesn't necessarily mean he is doing all that for the people. Thanks to Marvel NOW!, which brought an incarnation of the team assembled by Red Hulk.

In this story, Ross had some plans for the Leader (Tim Blake), but the members are different. That doesn't really matter; we have the head chef and the chicken on the table despite different co-chefs. The thing is, Red Hulk has a plan for the Leader; he might execute it by whatever means he deems right.

There's an instance in the comics where the Punisher even kills the Leader by shooting him between the eyes, disrupting whatever Ross was supposed to be doing with him. We don't have the Punisher here, but we do have Bucky with sort of a similar attitude, so what are the chances?

Later, the team is disbanded and goes on to become independent. If something like that happens in the film, Thunderbolts* members might let go of the Avengers idea for good as they aren't really people who can work under an authority.
