The upcoming mystery drama, The Residence, already seems promising as we see the teaser Netflix just dropped. The show is adapted from the non-fiction book, The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, written by Kate Anderson Browser. Shonda Rhimes who has already created some of the big series such as Bridgerton and Grey’s Anatomy will now be the executive producer of this show along with Paul William Davies. When will The Residence be released? Streaming options explored
The Residence is scheduled to be released this Spring on 20th March 2025. The show will be available to stream on Netflix and all the episodes will release on the same day. The streaming service pack ranges between $18 to $25 a month with the base pack $8.
What is the plot of The Residence?
The official Netflix synopsis reads:
"132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion."
The plot revolves around the White House, the site of a murder. As Cordelia Cupp is assigned with the role of investigating the case things take an unexpected turn. Cordelia Cupp is the consulting detective of the Metropolitan Police Department as the teaser mentioned her to be the best detective in the world. As the mystery thickens, Cordelia finds herself closer to solving the case.
Who is in the cast of The Residence?
The Residence boasts a fantastic ensemble starting with Uzo Abuda playing the cunning, witty, and committed detective Cordelia Cupp. Uzo Abuda is the lead in The Residence, followed by Randal Park as Edwin Park. Edwin is the Special Agent assigned to work alongside Cordelia Cupp. We see a fun banter between Cordelia and Edwin in the teaser itself making The Residence worth the wait.
Uzo Abuda rose to fame with her performance in Translations of Xhosa which got her the Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Play. She had numerous failed auditions before she gained her breakthrough role in the show Orange Is The New Black where her performance received widespread recognition.
The cast also includes other prominent actors such as Giancarlo Esposito, the famed actor from series like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and Al Franken from Saturday Night Live. This promising set of actors has made the viewers anticipate the show even more.
The filming of The Residence faced some initial setbacks because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, however, the filming resumed in 2024. Despite the initial hurdle during filming The Residence is set to release this March 20th. It is going to give a strong competition to other shows of the same genre. The viewers are eagerly waiting for the mix of politics, drama, and mystery that The Residence is going to offer.
