Malcolm Washington's The Piano Lesson is an upcoming horror drama film that has been adapted from the original play written by August Wilson in 1987. The story, set in the late 1930s, revolves around the members of the Charles family and their family heirloom, an ancient family piano, that has been carved with designs by one of their ancestors.
Academy Honorary Award-winning actor and Marvel star Samuel L. Jackson will be a part of the cast alongside John David Washington and Ray Fisher. Online streaming platform will reportedly release The Piano Lesson on November 22, 2024.
The movie had its premiere at the 51st edition of the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. Todd Black has produced the film along with well-known actor and director Denzel Washington. The official synopsis of The Piano Lesson reads:

The Piano Lesson had its early screenings at the 51st Telluride Film Festival, Colorado. As per latest reports, the film will be released on Netflix on November 22, 2024. Earlier on November 8 it had a selected theatrical release in The United States. The world premiere of The Piano Lesson took place at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The background of the movie is set in 1936's Pittsburgh suffering from the aftershock of The Great Depression. The Piano Lesson centers on the lives of the Charles family's members and their conflicts related to an ancient heirloom, a mysterious family piano.
As tension builds up inside the Doaker Charles household, viewers will witness how the family learns the truth about their enslaved ancestors. "After about two weeks on set, I went home. I was like, ‘There’s really nothing for me to do here, I’m just in the way.’ I’m not saying this because he’s my son, but he’s very talented."
