When Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) from Friends is there, one shouldn't be scared. The Parenting trailer already clears that out. But she's not the only one in the upcoming horror comedy; we got Brian Cox (Nuremberg), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Parker Posey (Dazed and Confused), and more in this ride.

Craig Johnson is directing it; he has previously worked on films like Wilson (2017), The Skeleton Twins (2014), and more, all of them comedy flicks. Chris Bender, known for the American Pie series, is producing it alongside Good Fear Content's Jake Weiner.

Other than them, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema are production partners. Following the release, which is due in March 2025 only, it will instantly be available for streaming, with HBO Max in charge of the film's distribution. So here's everything to know about the film before you get that subscription to watch it (or maybe you already have it).

When is The Parenting releasing?

The film will be released on March 13, 2025. Interestingly, alongside the cast announcement, the shooting began in the same month. Max already dropped the trailer recently, giving us a sneak peek at the members and the horrors that'll occupy the space there.

Where will it be streaming?

For now, all we know is that The Parenting will be streaming only on HBO Max; there are no further details on it. If you don't have a subscription, you can choose from three plans, including Basic with Ads ($9.99/month or $99.99/year), Standard ($16.99/month or $169.99/year), and ($20.99/month or $209.99/year).

The cast of The Parenting

Atypical's Nik Dodani and 13 Reasons Why's Brandon Flynn are in the leads. Rohan and Josh, respectively, are on a weekend getaway where they invite their families.

Talking about the families, we have Brian Cox as Gerald in The Parenting, who, by the end of the trailer, is seen roaming around the house and wants people in the house to look at something by the end of the trailer (we are not telling you that).

Then we have our badass Lisa Kudrow, who again seems happy in her own world, like when she was playing Phoebe in Friends. Yes, she'll be there for you.

Dean Norris is John in The Parenting, who was as cool as he was playing Hank Schrader in Breaking Bad. We don't know about others, but he saw whatever Gerald was trying to show people.

While these actors will surely bring some hearty laughs for us, there are more in the film; you'll find their names below.

  • Edie Falco as Dorothy
  • Lisa Kudrow as Lisa
  • Parker Posey as Elizabeth
  • Vivian Bang as Lillian
  • Chloe Sciore as Allie
  • Kate Avallone as Donna

What is The Parenting about?

It's about a couple of families in a haunted house. We already saw in the trailer that whoever this demon is, it will possess people and make us laugh. The film's synopsis (via IMDb) reads,

"A couple rents a countryside house for a weekend with their parents and then discover it's inhabited by a 400-year-old poltergeist."

It already appears to be one of the two best horror comedies to have been released this year, the other being Theo James' The Monkey.
