Christopher Nolan has added another star who appeared in Oppenheimer to his mythic adventure The Odyssey. Benny Safdie, who portrayed Edward Teller, recently joined the bandwagon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Other than Safdie, confirmed actors who'll appear in the film adaptation of Homer's epic include Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Holland, and Matt Damon.
Details regarding the film are thin on the ground but it will feature the journey of Odysseus' return after the Trojan War. There's still a debate over who will play the main character but Tom Holland and Matt Damon are said to be in the lead.
The Odyssey will be Safdie's second project with Nolan
Safdie will appear a second time in a Christopher Nolan project with, like others, his role in the film remaining a mystery. His character in Oppenheimer was pivotal to the story, which is based on true events. Edward Teller is regarded as the father of the hydrogen bomb today.
The actor has appeared in a number of notable roles before, where he is known for Good Time (2017). He played Nick in the film, who has a developmental disability, while Robert Pattinson, who is also in The Odyssey, plays the older brother, Connie.
Other than being an actor, Safdie is a filmmaker too, where his directorial works include Uncut Gems (2019), Heaven Knows What (2014), and more. He was the director of Good Times too.
While he is set to appear in The Odyssey, it still has some time to hit the theatres. His upcoming projects include Happy Gilmore 2, where he is acting alongside Adam Sandler; both have appeared in Uncut Gems too.
Like Nolan, this will be the first mythic adventure for Benny Safdie when we talk about the actor's career. The Odyssey is likely to feature some supernatural characters like Circe, Poseidon, Athena, and more. However, given the director's history of realistic storytelling, it will be worth seeing how he will approach this.
Homer's epic is one of the two major Greek poems, the other being the Iliad. Both of them are divided into 24 books. It tells the account of Odysseus, who encounters several perils during the character's journey.
Throughout the years, a number of movies based on the poem have been released, with The Return (2024) being the latest on the list. Ralph Fiennes played Odysseus in it, whose transformation was lauded by the fans.
