The Odyssey cast speculations: Which stars have joined Nolan's new epic and who might they play?

There's a whole lot of buzz around the upcoming Christopher Nolan film The Odyssey. The team's keeping things under wraps and slowly rolling things out. For now, three things are confirmed. A few actors and actresses are to appear in it; it's coming in on July 17, 2026, and it's going to be fun.

Christopher Nolan is in full swing for his film, which is an adaptation of Homer's epic of the same name. Many directors have tried that before, Uberto Pasolini most recently with his The Return, but it's high time we see Nolan's unique approach to cinematic storytelling come into play here.

Only the director knows which shoes will fit the best to whom, but there's no harm in speculating about that. So we will take a look at who can play whom in the movie. As for now, we know that stars like Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, and more are there.

Matt Damon as Odysseus

There's a healthy possibility for the actor to play Odysseus himself, given the character's age. He is likely to be the lead so that would make sense for someone who has frequently collaborated with Nolan.

Tom Holland as Telemachus

Although Tom Holland is being speculated by the fans for the role of Odysseus. Maybe he'll play a younger version and Matt will be the older. But Holland seems more fitting as Telemachus, Odysseus' son. Given his age, he sure is a thumbs-up to the role.

Anne Hathaway as Penelope

Zendaya won't really fit in as Penelope, especially if Matt Damon is leading The Odyssey. Anne Hathaway should play Odysseus' queen. Though Penelope is one loyal wife, and given her portrayal of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, many may not agree with it.

Jon Bernthal as Poseidon

Yes, The Punisher hopped on to the ride recently. Jon Bernthal needs to be in one major role in The Odyssey and Poseidon should be the one for him. For all we know, we would like to see him play Odysseus but we know that may not be possible. Poseidon was a major mover of events in Homer's poem so that he could do the magic.

Zendaya as Nausicaa

She can be a burner of the ships; that is what the name of the character means. What makes Zendaya perfect for this role is that she is the only young member other than Holland in The Odyssey cast and the character is one princess in Homer's epic.

Benny Safdie as Polyphemus

While Jon Bernthal appears fitting for Poseidon in The Odyssey, Benny Safdie could play the character's son Polyphemus. He was the one-eyed giant who loved eating men in the poem.

Lupita Nyong'o as Calypso

The most popular Calypso came under the guise of Tia Dalma in the Pirates of the Caribbean series but that could be changed if Lupita Nyong'o plays it in The Odyssey. She could be the one trying to detain Odysseus, or at least bribe him with immortality if he chooses to stay with her.

Robert Pattinson as Antinous

There's a chance that Robert Pattinson might be hoping for a chance to pursue Penelope now that Odysseus isn't in the loop, at least until he returns from his journey.

Charlize Theron as Athena

Charlize Theron was one protector in Mad Maxy: Fury Road and she might do the same in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Athena is one key character in the epic given that she's the patron goddess of the Odysseus family.
