Director Osgood Perkins seems to be on a roll as after Longlegs being hailed as one of best Indie horror-thrillers of the year, he is ready with his next project.

The Monkey, Osgood Perkins’ next directorial venture, is based on Stephen King’s short story that first came out in 1980. Collaborating with King and James Wan, Perkins is expected to send shivers down the viewers’ spines.

The short story called The Monkey, follows two brothers who discover a toy monkey in the attic, playing a cymbal. Unfortunately, the unsuspicious brothers do not understand that every time the mechanical simian clangs its cymbals, someone close to them perishes.

Despite a number of King’s works, including classics like Carrie, IT, and The Shining being adapted to the screen, The Monkey has never been made into a film.

Here are all the details about The Monkey.

Neon has not yet shared any official synopsis for the plot of The Monkey. However, Amazon does provide a summary of the book by Stephen King, on which the film is based on.

The summary goes like:

“Hal didn't know where it had come from, but every time the moth-eaten monkey with the strange yellow eyes clashed his cymbals, jang, jang, jang… somebody died. An irresistible urge had made him turn the key, but that was before he knew what it could do. He thought he had gotten rid of the evil thing once and for all. But the monkey had other plans for Hal.”
