The Monkey cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the horror-comedy?

Theo James was seen doing double duty in Osgood Perkins' The Monkey, where one of his characters is guilty of doing something while the other wants revenge for the event that made him guilty.

The film is up and running in theaters and was received well by the critics, with 78% of them giving their seal of approval, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Though it was a bit less if we go by the popcorn meter, that's the culmination of audience ratings on the website.

Despite the fact that we got some good performances from actors including Tatiana Maslany, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, and more, that drum-playing monkey stole the show, and lives for that matter.

Fans who have read the original short story by Stephen King know what kind of twisted things happen in there, but this is a cinematic treat for horror and humor lovers.

Theo James as Hal and Bill Shelburn

Theo James plays Hal and Bill Shelburn, where the former unknowingly kills his mother while he is just trying to kill the latter. Innocent, right? It is actually; fans will realize this when they watch the film.

It's natural if you confuse him with James Franco in case you are watching him for, what, "first time?" To clear that out, fans know James as Tobias Eaton from The Divergent trilogy.

Colin O'Brien as Petey

Colin O'Brien is Petey, Hal's son, in The Monkey. He shares this name with his grandfather, Captain Petey Shelburn, so don't get confused with that. Throughout the film, you'll see how distant he becomes from his father. But then it's not the end until the movie ends.

The actor has played Edward in the Apple TV+ series Dear Edward, which landed him a Young Artist Award nomination. He also appeared in a couple of Grey's Anatomy episodes as Grayson Friedman.

Osgood Perkins as Chip

Last time we saw Osgood Perkins in The Monkey, he was nothing short of minced meat, courtesy of a horse stampede. He is Uncle Chip to Hal and Bill, and both the boys move with him after Hal unknowingly kills his mother.

Perkins began his career quite early in his life, beginning with a young version of Norman Bates in Psycho II (1983). However, his directorial debut came in 2015 with The Blackcoat's Daughter. He has been riding that horror wagon since.

That film is filled with many interesting characters who eventually end up dead in some sick ways. One of them is obviously Rohan Campbell's Thrasher, whom a large bunch of wasps decide to know from inside.

Other than him, we have the attorney at law, Tatiana Maslany, in The Monkey, but she's just a normal mom. Well, not really normal, especially when it comes to that "everybody dies" dialogue. It'll certainly give the fans some creepy vibes.

One interesting death in The Monkey sees a woman with her head on fire running outside. No, that's not Johnny Blaze; that's Aunt Ida, played by Schitt's Creek actress Sarah Levy.
